Hi

I have a Panasonic Dmr-Ex768Ebk Freeview 160Gb Hard Drive Dvd Recorder 1080P Up-Conversion - Black & always use subtitles when I record something so that I don't miss anything

I set the 'Subtitles on' when I use timer record, but over the last few days, the subtitles don't seem to take effect

I can't see that I am doing anything than usual and it's driving me mad

Does anyone know why this is happening? I have tried contacting Panasonic & they are no help at all

Please help. Thanks

I have similar make, no problems. My default setting for STTL (extreme right) is off and I customarily change every timer recording to ON. I guess what you are saying is that it is not responding.
I would try:
1. live-record something you are already watching with subtitles on and see if it's okay on playback. A few minutes will do. Use the RHS direct tv rec button on handset, (not the one on LHS, same 2nd-bottom row).
2. Use the function menu; recording; ok; and on next empty line, key in advance programme long-hand, with subtitle option to ON.
3. Function menu; to others; set up; auto setup restart.
Hopefully, it will return to the normal way it should be. If not, if any of the above works, you'll have to stick with that. If you don't have the operating instructions, you can probably download.
Then try recording in advance as normal.

Coul you please explain this in simpler terms as I am am afraid that I am a bit of a Technophobe?

For example, What do you mean by (2) Use the function menu; recording; ok; and on next empty line, key in advance programme long-hand, with subtitle option to ON'?

Thanks
Sorry for delay. I see you first posted about this 5/6 weeks ago, without getting a reply. I will repeat my answer, with less shorthand. If this doesn't work and you're still stuck I suggest e-mail swop.

I would try any of these:
1. When you are already watching a programme with subtitles on, try to live-record it and then see if it's okay on playback. Use the "direct tv rec" button with small red circle on handset, extreme right, 2nd-bottom row, (not the one on extreme left, same row, that one doesn't do subtitles).
2. Use the function menu, to the right of main central circle on handset; then press recording; then ok; and on next empty line available, key in advance programme long-hand, with subtitle option to ON.
3. Restart - use Function menu; then to "others"; then set up; then auto setup restart.
Good luck

Hi again Bilsuth

I have tried the direct TV recording button option but I keep receving the message 'Your TV set is not suitable for this option or the power was switched off' Do you know what this means cos I have no idea. Please help
Hi again Alison. I see from previous posts you have had a few tech problems (and that some replies are not very sympathetic!).
Have you been able to record with subtitles ever since you linked up the recorder with the TV (I see they are different manufacturers)?
If you can get subtitles normally on TV, try my first suggestion using the right hand red-circle button on handset. Check your Panasonic recorder operating instructions. You can probably download if you don't have a copy. Let me know. Or else we may have to think about email swopping for a more comprehensive attack on this problem.

I have my Panasonic DVDR wired up to a Samsung UE22F5000 22-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LED TV with Freeview HD and USB Movie Playback (New for 2013) (purchased in August 2013) and the Subtitles work fine on the TV, but not always on the DVDR. Is it possible that I have the DVDR wired up incorrectly to the TV which is why the subtitles don't always work even though I always have them switched on? I had the DVDR wired up to my old Samsung TV for years & never had this problem before?

I have the new Samsung TV linked to the EXT. on my new TV, but there is also a HDMI1 or HDMI2/ DVD1, AV/ DVD or Component option? I connected it to the EXT option because it seemed to work OK & none of the other options worked on initial set-up. I am so confused. I really don't know what I am doing & have nobody else to advise me. Please please help
Hi again.

Wiring: as you suggest yourself, double check it.

EXT: I'm not sure this is correct option. It may be but certainly not EXT LINK, which is for external devices e.g. discs.

Subtitles language: (page 66 in operating instructions). Make sure the English (language) option is ticked. Maybe it doesn't work if the language option has not been activated at all.

A friend who had a Goodmans (not aarecommended) couldn't get recorded subtitles. By trial and error, and in desperation, we tried watching every live tv programme with subtitles, and in particular to make sure the TV subs were on for each channel needed for recordings later that night. As I recall, it was fairly successful.
The theory was to "con" the machine into regarding "subtitles on" as the default tuning setting for each channel when the timer searched.

When you have some spare time, try using the various tricks to record odd programmes at random just to experiment. Maybe you'll strike it lucky - and just remember HOW you got it to work. Can't think of anything else meantime.
Sorry, typo error. Should read ... Goodmans (not a recommended make). It has some advantages (e.g record 2 progs at once) but some faults on it can only be sorted by a total reset to default - and then you lose your whole library!

Hi again Bilsuth

I really appreciate all your help, but I wondered whether you might have the answer to a few more questions regarding this long-running saga....

Please please help if you can as the problem with my DVD Recorder is still really troubling me

I always check the signal condition on my DVDR & ensure that it is strong. If this is not the case, I adjust the aerial until the signal is strong so this can't be why subtitles are not being recorded. I have also checked the signal condition in my area and am informed that this is strong so this can't be why the subtitles are not being recorded

I have checked the wiring from the DVDR to the televison as advised by Pansonic & as far as I can tell, it is correct

I have tried Panasonic's suggestion to restore the DVDR settings to shipping condition several times. Each time the solution seems to work for a couple of days & then then for reasons unknown the subtitles don't work. I really don;t know why

****Is it possible to re-programme the machine into regarding "subtitles on" as the default tuning setting for each channel the next time I 'Restore to shipping condition'?****

Also, I have noticed that when I retune my DVDR when informed that a new digital channel has been found, the channels have different 'IDs'. Can this be why the Subtitles only work on some channels? Should the IDs be the same?

Should I be retuning the DVDR every time I am advised that a new digital Channel has been found? Is this where I am going wrong?

When I restore my DVDR to 'shipping condition', I do not enter a PIN Number, Is this the reason why subtitles are not being recorded as requested?

I am so confused. I really don't know what I am doing & have nobody else to advise me. Please please help. I am really begging you
