A friend of mine does it all the time and he is still around to tell the tale, only thing is that they don't look cooked so he fry's them very briefly to give them some colour. Have never tried it myself though.
pete - Yes you can microwave them, just remember to prick them & they cook better on the defrost setting which is a more gentler heat . Test to see if they are fully cooked, it's trial & error finding the right amount of time to cook them for. Cooking them on the high setting makes them tough & rubbery!
It's safe, but as noted, they don't brown.

You can buy microwaveable sauges (e.g. Walls), and the Linda McCartney ones are microwaveable from frozen and very pleasant if you fancy a change.
