Something I Want From People

Here is a new revelation to add to my collection. I want nothing more from people, than their true and honest opinion of me, and things I ask them about.

I want to know what people think of me. Too many people these days would rather suck up to you and tell you what you want to hear, rather than smacking you with the truth. I am a little tired of being given a comforting lie, and I just want the uncomfortable truth. Specifically I want the inner dialogue that happens when I walk into the room, or when people think about me, what comes up?

What kind of environment do I need to form for other people to give me that kind of truth?

Not going to happen. You are suggesting you want blunt rudeness rather than polite tact. Besides everyone can have fleeting thoughts they later dismiss. If you knew those thoughts you'd simply take it to heart and be permanently depressed. Best to accept those external aspects which you realise you can not change and adapt your own state of mind to reality...

People don't necessarily suck up to you or anyone else.

If we were all as honest as you want there would be a hell of a lot of unhappy people.

Every stupid thing you do or say would be thrown back in your face. Every anouying thing foible you have would be smacked large in your face.

But start by being as honest with others as you want them to be with you. It will show you pretty quickly how you would react if the shoe were on the other foot.

You're a stupid guy, welcome to my world.

Do you tell others your honest opinion of them?  Do you think they want to know or care about your opinion?

I suspect that when you walk in to a room, people don't give you a thought, they are too busy with what they're doing and thinking.  That goes for anyone, not just you.

When you walk into a room people are relieved that the centre of attention has arrived and the party can start, obviously.

Best to accept those external aspects which you realise you can not change and adapt your own state of mind to reality instead. This is something you have more influence over even though it isn't always easy.

Find some friends with mild autism... If they are anything like me you will get  more unfiltered thought than you might need... My friends are used to it now.

You will never hear the truth from people about what they really think of you.  And what does it matter? It is nobody's business what you think, and it is not your business what other people think.

If you feel people are shallow or dishonest in their attitude to you, you have the choice of either accepting the charade and going along with it, or shunning that person.

But you will never, ever know what they truly think, because they will never tell you.
