untitled, oh so 'not me guv!  We were in control, we pilfered money that was rightly yours, we sold what was rightly yours, we screwed you for what was rightly yours, and despite all of that we still left the country stony broke -  but it was nothing to do with us!'  Pull the other one!

The Conservative government, in the second half of its tenure faced unprecedented challenges.  The first was Brexit when opposition on all sides forced Boris to fight with one hand tied behind his back to deliver the will of the people - a shameful episode from those who would baulk democracy.  The second was Covid when the government, in my opinion, reacted splendidly not only in being the first to roll out a vaccine but in reacting to the needs of business, the economy, and to those of the working population too.  You want achievements?  They're achievements!

Can you imagine if Corbyn/MacDonald had won in 2019? Doesn't bear thinking about.

At least the Tories held off Labour until Labour managed to reform itself into someting half way resembling respectability.

Just hope the hard left can be restrained if they DO get into power. Not a sure thing yet.

"What Did The Conservatives Achieve... "

Having achieved Brexit, the Conservatives under Theresa May's leadership - she who gets little aclaim for anything - immediately arranged, insisted & got,  a reciprocal heathcare arrangement for British citizens residing within the EU and for EU residents within the UK.

Labour saved this country from financial meltdown in the wake of the collapse of the sub-prime market in 2008. The Tories would have done the same. Gordon Brown was praised by other countries for the action that Britain took to save jobs, save the banks and save businesses.

Covid was total cock up by the Tories and some kind of personal crusade for Bojo the Clown who ignored the previously agreed procedure in case of a pandemic. If the contingency had been followed correctly, lockdown would not have been necessary, but he cost this country billions that could have been avoided. The problems were created by the Tories in the shape of Bojo the Clown. And all the time he was laughing at us.

er - I don't think Boris devised & implemented the covid strategy entirely on his own. He would have followed the advice of the "experts". Boris haters really are stupidly narrow-minded!

Many other countries took similar measures.

PS - Gorgon Brown was more of a financial disaster than any Tory. Flogged off the gold reserves for a pittance, saddled hospitals and schools with huge on-going PFI bills, raided pension funds of billions....

As Liam Byrne said

" Dear Chief Secretary, I'm afraid there is no money. Kind regards – and good luck!!"

The globalised ethos of so called, 'multi-culture', multi ethnicity, which is dragging Britain down, ruining the country, and seems to be now unstoppable, originated & can be laid firmly at the door of the Labour Party (courtesy of the likes of Michael Foot etc.) not the Tories.

The Labour Party has ruined the country and will continue to do so if elected - though I don't think the present Conservative (in name only) Party is sadly the answer either.

Cobblers. The Labour Party were re-elected three times. That's not an endorsement of failure. It's a bit rich in the current financial climate to say that Labour has ruined the country. That can only be the fault of useless Tory mis-management for the last 14 years.

10C;  "The current financial climate" is not the worst of Britain's problems, financial problems come and go for most countries and are solveable.

The UK's present societal catastrophe is, I'm afraid, not going to go away.

Isn't blocking and criticising the role of the opposition?

yes indeedy. Alan Clarke minister and lothario ( he is the one who boasted bedding both mudda and gurlz) said at one point to his oppo in the House of Commons

oh why do you have to oppose and criticise everything

well HE understood how the HoC worked, innit?

Gorgon Brown was a disaster. Flogged  ..., saddled h , raided pension funds....

and boasted 2008 that the boom-bust economic cycle had been conquered ! boom-boom !

( hot housed to get A levels at 16 at Kirrrrrrkcorrrrrrrdy Academy and felt he had been abused)

They enjoyed their game of musical chairs with the prime ministership, and have an A in stabbing fellow politicians in the back.
