I can't help wondering how many kids fell off high structures after trying to imitate him though, Hoppy!

I remember years ago watching sea cadets doing climbing displays on huge portable masts to music. Must have been 40-50ft high, no harnesses, nothing! John Noakes was gutsy, didn't he hold the world record for highest civilian skydive?

Yes, Dagman.  HMS Ganges was very close to Ipswich, where I was brought up.  One of the biggest annual events in Ipswich was the annual Co-op Fete, where the boys from HMS Ganges were always present, showing off their athletic abilities and climbing skills.

H&S would have a dicky fit if it was tried now! They were brave lads, wonder how many came a cropper!
