barsel: "Part N ????" - yes n is used in maths to mean a non specific number. n gets capitalised as a feature of AB editing. Did they do maths in your school? ...and I thought you promised to ignore my TWAU threads.

Barsel, the nth is an unspecified number in a series.

See also 'to the nth degree'.

It's ironic that you call out deleted posts as being "nasties" while calling other ABers dim or criticising their mathematical knowledge. I'm guessing you've seen how much these posts annoy people so decided to crack on with them while sniggering behind your keyboard.

It's also used to denote Nobody paying and attention to Billy Bluster and his displays of superiority. 🙄

10:22, Mozz, I just don't see why they annoy people. As I said in other posts they are meant to be comedic observations of silly quiz show answers. The old family fortunes ones in the past did not seem to attract so much anger. Perhaps a lot of people see themselves and don't like it.

They don't come over at humorous thpugh Tora, the come over at extreme arrogance. I never saw your Family Fortune posts but I can imagine what they contained. The difference is the format of the two shows, where The Chase ask specific questions. You either know the answer or you don't. Family Fortunes is different, as it's not based on general knowledge.

Damn autocorrect changing "as" to "at"! You get the idea though.

Following up close behind is celebrity Mastermind,   'What vegetable are chips made from in the meal Fish & Chips?'  talk about dumbing down, Magnus Magnussan will be spinning

fourteen - your post reminds me of an incident many years ago. Someone I worked with had emigrated to Canada and had come back here for a visit. She told me she was cutting up potatoes to make chips and a small Canadian child watched in amazement and said "So that's where chips come from"; he'd only seen chips come from a bag in the freezer.

TTT I know I said I was going to ignore these posts, but I'm finding it difficult to resist you.😉

Did they do maths at my school you ask?

I think so, but we didn't do anything too difficult 'cos we weren't really interested.

Barsel: "TTT I know I said I was going to ignore these posts, but I'm finding it difficult to resist you.😉" - I can understand that.

"Did they do maths at my school you ask?

I think so, but we didn't do anything too difficult 'cos we weren't really interested." - pretty basic Algebra, that's a branch of maths not an Islamic terror group.

TTT you might not believe this, but it's absolutely true.

The school I went to was an all-girl school and very much like St Trinians.

I remember very clearly the day the maths teacher asked us if we would like to learn algebra.

Hands up girls. Well, I think a few put their hands up and the teacher decided not enough of us were interested, so we didn't do it. That is a true story.

That's awful, Barsel.  I've never heard anything like that.   Where was that school?

Old Trafford Naomi.

I'm sure they don't have schools like that anymore, but it was a long long time ago.

Crikey!  I hope not.

I can say in all honesty, I have learnt a lot more since I left school than I ever did at school, but definitely not algebra.😀

😂
