Work, or at least interesting work, gives many people a reason to get up and something to occupy their days.

If AI  makes working a choice rather than a necessity what is to become of us?

Much the same was said by the original Luddites and people have continued to do so over the centuries as time marches on.

No doubt AI will take over the world and destroy us all on the stroke of midnight in the near future

It wont though.  AI is over hyped plus many jobs cant be automated let alone benefit from proper AI if and when it comes.

For instance how is it going to plumb your house or fix the leccy?

Some will have the ability to find other things to do, learn, investigate. Others will stagnant and need help.

It's all nonsence, I fully expect an "AI" tax of some sort to come out soon though, that'll sort it!

two points ( wow!) watch out peter!

Downing st did the filming and there for  had editorial control - I am not sure if the stream was edited. Most of the hacks commenting, were not commenting on content but on production ( they were excluded)

and therefore sniffy about it

and I have forgotten the second point

Was it about Bletchley Park?  Annoying that it was all about the codebreaking, when the real significance in this context was the Turing Test.

oh and people doing nothing - and sociologists writing about it is called leisurology

"was called" then. what do people do in leisure time ?

Leisureology historians ( no really there are a few) say that  the first paper came out near the end of the war

That would be my father's paper in the BMJ Mar 1945 - what do POWs do in a POW camp?

( they have a lot of  leisure see, not shooting huns - I realise I am writing for AB)

Here it  is

Plot the lost...

Turing test

yes at the time Turing said if you cdnt tell a machine from a fella, then it was conscious. Point rather mushed by the hacks

plot the  lost...... vis a vis Bletchley

good point! - haw haw haw - -  plotting codes and outputs on bloody large squared paper was part of the code breaking

Just powerful computers, nothing to see here.

Oh, and as it's Britain we'll have a half-baked, cobbled together version that almost works.

It's what we do.

History has shown that the introduction of labour saving devices tends to create jobs. Lud needn't have bothered.

Quantum computers and AI, now that's a good combination :-)

It will leave more time for shoplifting

Question Author

But why would you shoplift if you had enough in the way of benefits to buy anything you wanted?

Who is saying you will have as much as you want?

That will never happen under any political system, the elites will be ok, those in the middle will be ok, but those at the bottom will remain at the bottom.

Anyway, it will never happen, what will happen is jobs will change.

^. You're probably right.  Even in a utopia for some there'll still be a need for those who draw water and hew wood.

Elon Musk suggested this I believe, so I think it can safely be discounted.

Quite Sandy.

Ick, although I do quite like Musk he can be very strange with some wierd ideas sometimes. I'm sure the shrinks would have a few boxes to place him in !

Elon Musk still thinks we will have fully self driving vehicles.

Fool.
