Barney. What part of the mantra' we will eradicate Israel off the map' do you not understand? That has long been the aim of Islamic extremists. This is Hamas playing the tough guys and murdering young women and children.

It's the fear of peace motivating Hamas, the increasing tendency of Arab states to make peace agreements with Israel, as evidenced by the 2020 Abraham Accords, involving the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco. (with thanks to Donald Trump!)

Hamas doesn't want a 'settlement' it wants the complete annihilation of Israel.

2000: President Bill Clinton, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat gather at the Camp David summit, a meeting intended to end hostilities. It ends without an agreement.

2021: Fighting erupts again as Israeli police raid the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on April 13, the first night of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and disconnect speakers broadcasting prayers as Reuven Rivlin, the Israeli president, is speaking at the Western Wall, a site sacred to the Jewish people. Police then close a nearby plaza, a popular gathering place. Palestinians and Jews begin attacking one another, and Israeli police raid the mosque on May 7. The raid, on what's considered a holy Muslim site on one of the holiest nights of Ramadan, is viewed by Muslims as an insult. Hamas and other militants fire rockets into Israel from Gaza on May 10. Israel counterattacks with airstrikes. A ceasefire went into effect on May 21. It lasted until June 16, when Hamas sent incendiary balloons – helium balloons or kites with flammable devices attached – across the Gaza border into Israel. All the above is nought compared to what is coming. Israel has mustered 100,000 troops. Hamas has slaughterd up to 700 unarmed and inactive civilians since Saturday, possibly including abducted women and children! What follows will not make for pleasant news. A US Aircraft Carrier strike force is in the region and 500 miles North is the Black Sea with its own conflict.(One that could easily spill over if Russia feels that their own precarious position is improved by that happening). If Israel or the US have credible proof(to them) that Iran was the instigator and source of funding or logistic aid for this cowardly action then the conflict is going right to the heart of that twisted regime. Once again the world must hold it's breath along with it's nerve. Rest assured that if Hamas are allowed to get away with this then the next one will be worse.
