Rishi Sunak has cleared up another of Boris Johnson’s Brexit messes by agreeing a deal with Brussels for the UK to rejoin the EU’s £85bn Horizon science research programme.

After months of uncertainty, the government said a “bespoke” new agreement has been signed allowing British researchers to apply for grants and take part in Horizon projects.

The move comes as a huge relief to scientists, amid warnings that UK researchers have been missing out on collaboration with colleagues in Europe in much of the two years since Brexit.

Which could have been achieved three years ago had both sides (note, both sides) been a little less intransigent.

But the UK won't be part of the Euratom fusion programme, which some in the UK have said it is a lost opportunity.

Presumably that's because the UK government believes it is not in the country's best interests to take part.
Hardly a BJ Brexit mess. Clearly more of a case of a childish EU holding on to their toys and not letting anyone else play, in a fit of pique at losing control of the UK.

And yet now we have negotiated a deal that seems to suit the UK and the EU.
Dead right it isn't Judge. The EUSSR would love to get its hands on the Rolls Royce intellectual property concerning the Small Module Reactors. World leading technology worth £billions and prospects of transforming energy production and delivery without massive infrastructure pollution or disruption. They would love to steal that.

So.... what will happen when a decent government rips up that ludicrous Windor nonsense ?
drmorgans: "But the UK won't be part of the Euratom fusion programme" - that's because UK leads the world in that area. Why would we want to hand it all over to the EUSSR?
Is the UK not working with the EU as part of the JET programme?
