Sky Plus Problem

We have a Sky Plus box which, admittedly we have had for many years, and have suddenly discovered that we can no longer record programmes on Channel 5 or BBC 2. In fact, some of the programmes we had set to record have disappeared. Does anyone with expert knowledge know why this has happened? We are reluctant to ring Sky as it is always difficult. Would appreciate any advice, please

Ring them on 08001512747, but it’s my belief that nearly all programmes are now HD and the old Sky + box may not support them, why not as for a SkyQ box ask if there’s any deals on ?
I seem to remember that Sky+ box did record HD channels. Have yoy tried switching the box off at the socket(not just leaving it on standby) and rebooting it? Probably best to switch off at the socket and unplug it for a few minutes. Then plug back in and switch it back on. Also check the twin dish co-axial leads at the back are in good order. Have a look at the dish itself and see if there are anf leads loose or damaged. I would do that before all else.
Lindyloo is the box the very old square white one or the black one with a rounded front? If it is the former then there is no support from Sky for it. If it is the latter then you have other options to sort the issue.

Thank you for all this helpful advice. Yes, we have re-booted and no difference. Our box is a black one with a rounded front. I think we've had it about 10 years. Strangely, it will let us record programmes either side of what we wish to set, but won't let us choose a different one!
That would have been my next suggestion Hopkirk. A system reset. I would also have suggested removing the card and looking for any damage first.

Thank you so much once again. The problem has got worse as we now cannot access Sky at all - just get a blue screen. Husband is at present checking all cables, etc to see if he can fix it. Reluctant to call someone else in just yet. Will keep you posted!
The older sky boxes won't world with HD broadcasts, ask for and upgrade to SkyQ. They will try and get you to go for glass but beware that does not have recording ability so insist on Sky Q.
Plenty of Sky boxes on eBay, that can cope with HD.

However it might be just that a fat pigeon has been bouncing on the dish.

Good News - we have Sky back and all is restored. Lost a few recordings last night - one said due to power cut (did we have one? Otherwise all looks fine. Hubby is unsure what he did - he checked everything inside and out, but thinks it was just luck he got it back. Thanks everyone for your input.
Glad you are sorted
Powercut just means that it couldn’t record because it was switched off.

I would suggest that you do a Planner Rebuild - it is non-destructive, it just does some housekeeping on the hard disk
