Can anybody recommend a good house insurance? I know hen's teeth!!
I changed to LV last year as they were cheaper than Aviva who I had been with for years.
This year LV have gone up by a third and when I phoned them they would not budge.
Obviously once they have you they don't care.
I have renewed for this year but will definitely change next year.
My blood pressure doesn't like this!

Have you used the comparison websites?

I usually do and end up with Saga or Admiral or Churchill. Not sure who I’m with this year I swap about so much.
My wife has just changed ours to Sainsbury's Home insurance. Recommended to her by her brother who is well into the finance business. Better premium than our previous House insurance as well.
It's hard to say who's good until something goes wrong and you need them but I change every year via Go Compare. When you put your details in they are stored so that every year you can just click through the questions to get the quotes.
We were with Churchill for a while but then the price went up by a lot almost double. We are now with the Co-Op much less than Churchill and more cover.
The problem with insurance companies is you don't really know how good they are until you make a claim. In this particular case, I didn't even make a claim, I had a personal accident insurance policy for over forty years. On the very day of my eightieth birthday I received a letter. "Dear sir, As you have now turned eighty we will no longer be insuring you" etc. This was not mentioned in the policy documents. My other policies are with companies who are dearer than most but from previous experiences they have been fair and fast in paying out. Like a lot of things in this life, you get what you pay for.
Was with Direct Line for over 20 years, always the cheapest for us until this year. Now with Tesco
LV wouldn't budge for me this year on price but when I needed them a while back they were brilliant. Sent someone to check damage the same day it happened. So I paid them. Everything else has got dearer so it is understandable why they have as well.
I pay £300-400 with wesleyan
but this is not contents - I go for big stuff like fire, flood etc
Claims - oh god
One beggar near us ( under torture) confessed to employing boys to go in an rob houses. If there was an insurance coupon found, he would write to the insurance co ( joined up!) saying it was a put up insurance fraud and he had been paid to rob the house

some muvvuz. Died from ca larynx after being kicked by a passer by. Odd case of trauma-localisation. Affecting as God dictates the organ he used to lie with.

Thanks everyone.
Ladybirder, have only been with LV a year and had no claims but see they won't budge on price for you either.
Have made a note of advice and will definitely look into it next year.
Left LV a while back.

Best advice was first reply, we all live in different homes in different parts of the country. Insurers often want to 'balance the bet' and will adjust rates to attract or indeed push away customers if it feels too many eggs are in one basket.

So plug you details into a comparison site and see what offers up. Just make sure you are comparing like for like though as some tend ot add on extras others include. Depends if you want them or not.
