Just had my new quote from Saga, beyond belief. I live in a two bedroom house in berkshire. I have the top of the range house insurance with them which covers you for an unlimited amount if you should have a leak from water pipes etc. most only cover you for £5,000.00. Quote comes out at £371.00.
Seems very high to me. Could someone please give me the name of one of their insurance companies they have been pleased with, as I am going to change this year. Even with Saga's cheaper house insurance, it is still very costly. Did wonder about John Lewis. Thanks.

Best bet is to try price comparison web sites :)
more than are good, but do try all the comparison sites
I am with M and S I saved a bucket but the big plus for me is that you don't have to do the detailed listing thing
Renew with Co-op insurance - £286
Quote from Saga - £148
Quote from RIAS - £136
All with same excesses and more or less identical cover.

Thanks all for your comments, I am going to shop around, not sure how Saga are quoting £148.00 frugalfred when they are quoting me £371.00, must be this premium policy cover I have. My friend's house is a 4 bedroom detached with 4 acres of land in berkshire and she has it insured with Aviva and she is paying £30.00 less than me in my 2 bedroom semi.
Do you have car insurance with someone else? Try them, as you can often get a good deal by having multiple policies with one insurer.

Thanks ellipsis, car insurance is with Saga. They did offer to reduce my house insurance by £45.00 but I still think it is rather expensive.

House insurance is exactly like car insurance you MUST shop around.
If you just accept the renewal quote you WILL get ripped off , use the comparison web sites and look for the best quote. Then shop around every year NEVER just accept a renewal quote.
I chose John Lewis because it is a Which? Recommended Provider- and was amazed at how inexpensive it was.....highly recommended.
I've found that if you are with an Insurer the renewal quote is invariably increased. I feel they think you have so much to do you won't really have time to shop around...but I have and each year there is always an Insurer who can offer you (like for like) a cheaper premium... to get you on their books.. My Saga quote for a 3bed Semi was >£500. RIAS did it for £320. Before Saga was The Post Office who quoted low and renewed high. The pattern is there to see. Half an hour shopping round is a wise move.
....however, lowest price doesn't necessarily equate with good value.
