off on one now...

To be honest, when I got income support, I never questioned anyone else, or judged them. I was on income support. And I hated that. Before my marriage breakdown, I had a very good job. But, marriage broke down. I had the children to look after. And income support is what you get. Or you starve. My ex pays maintenance, so that was taken out of income support.

But all you, who think, those who get benefit are rolling in it are wrong.

And its not just the money thing. Its the self esteem. I remember always thinking everyone knows I get benefit. I hated it. Got very depressed about it. Who genuinely wants to get a benefit? really?

Sorry, but this really bugs me.
Wow, a lot of Opinions here. Valid Points from all...... I personally feel that if you need Benefits or are entitled to them, that is no shame in receiving them.

I agree, however, that there are a few People who 'Milk' the System and this make it difficult for those that genuinely need the Benefits as (a) There may not be as much Money in the Pot and (b) It gives the genuine People a Bad Name, which is unfair.

People on Benefits should not feel ashamed. The People who abuse the System should though.

I Work for a Government Department that provides Benefits and am proud to say that we do. It's good that we provide for People.

don't you agree that if we could get rid of the scroungers then the more deserving people, like your son, could benefit more not only financially but with support.
Dreaming

I believe what you say. I am a very caring person that is why I get so angry with the ones that abuse the system. They teach btheir children to do the same. Unless we put a stop to it there will come a point in the future when there will be more claiming than earning, what about the people who really need it then. I may be one of them.

dreaming, i no what u mean by u thought every1 knew u were on benefits i only have to go to the shop and if somebody looks at me i think oh my god they no.
even bumping into old friends who ask what u upto i feel myself go bright red
Al_Ucard. I never dreamt of abusing the system.

I genuinely think sometimes, those who are fortunate enough to have never got in the benefit system dont realise how things are.

You get in a circle where its hard to get out of.

I am working now. And happier than I have been for a very long time. Not just financially. But knowing that I am earning.

It really is not that good being on benefits. It knocks your self esteem totally.

You dont feel part of society. People should realise that.

Sorry havinmysay for my rants. But it hit a sore point with me.

yes havinmysay. I know exactly how you feel. Believe me. And I dont think we are the only ones.

Look at this time in your life as you looking after your children. And when they are older, or if you have one, then when he or she is older, and you can get back into work.

You are doing a great job. Ignore those who are who have never been in our position. They cant comment.

Oh, and what do the men do when a relationship/marriage breaks down?

They just get on with their lives!

Have I ranted enough?

dreaming u were fab thanx lovie u said it all 4 me xxx
I have been lucky that I have never had to be on Income Support or any of the other 'means tested' benefits.

I worked at the 'social' for almost 25 years and found that most of the people that I dealt with were just like me, just living in different circumstances.

The problem area are the people who have never worked and who breed children who don't want to work. They feel that the state is there to support them.
They see having children as a way to get money off the government.

Nobody should feel bad about claiming benefits, that is what the system is there for.
havinmysay....you are very welcome. Been there etc etc. I know how it feels totally.

Good luck hun xx

i started this :)
where is the link Bob, and I will comment!
Having read all the threads....you all have valid points, but there are far too many fit young people claiming unemployment benefit for far too long- What's wrong with them being handed a bag and a 'grabber' and telling them to at least keep their own street clean and take a pride in their city - I feel so ashamed to see the litter strewn everywhere when I think of any tourists seeing where we live.
I have seen many with walking sticks -carrying them while they use both hands to send an SMS while walking as good and straight as anyone. My wife used to work in a P.O. when benefit was paid out from there and it wasn't uncommon for the walking sticks to be left behind!
no Dreaming, what happens to us men when a relationship breaks down is that we get the CSA sicked upon us, whether there is an amicable agreement or not.

and you may all want to spare a thought for the people who should be entitled to benefits but arnt because of the ridiculous system within the govt operates.
e.g.... you work for, oooh, lets say 13 years in a well paid job, pay hellish amounts of tax and NI. after finishing that job you go into further education to gain a degree which you hope will enhance you're job prospects in another area.

splendid you may say... until you realise that because you've been at university for 3 years, you havnt paid enough NI in those three years to qualify you for joobseekers allowances while you find that dream job. despite however much you have paid in the past!!!

bitter?? what do you think.?
Stevie, I never got involved with CSA as my ex and my sorted out a payment for children, though in saying that . No payments have increased although the children are now older and obviously cost more to look after. But thats not my gripe here.

I dont know anything about the benefits system. Apart from Income Support, whichI I was on. And even that baffled me at times.

Lone parents, I,m a "lone parant" and have never claimed benifits. Why; because I've always worked.

There are some people who through no fault of there own are not able to work, and they should be supported. Being a loan parent is not an excuse to claim benifits. Being disabled (or similar)is.

I have put 2 kids through school, 1 through Uni, with the other one with aspirations to go to Uni, without claiming any benifits. WHY I work , bl00dy hard .

I have no objections to supporting those who need it, and do lots to help them in my local community. BUT I do object to spongers of ANY, background, creed, colour or nationality.
Al_ucard.

Sorry for late reply, yes it would be great if the scoungers could be stopped, but it will never happen, I do a lot of work for the Council and I see a lot of people on benefit, a few have been on it for years, one man in his early fifties, has not worked all the time I have known him, (bad back) yet he has paved all his back garden, boarded the loft and does odd jobs for cash, the attitude towards him from the council is,
It is easier to leave well alone, because he gets abusive he is left in peace to scrounge for the rest of his life,

on the other hand people look at my son and think, well there is nothing wrong with him,he looks fine, but he is waiting to go into Hospital for a hip replacement,he can never do the work he did again ( he was a groundworker) steel fixing etc,

He was useless at school,so it looks to me as if he has been put on the scrap heap at his age (28) he wants to work,he cannot survive on 92 per week, he is young he wants to go out,he wants a life, he has never even had a visit from a social worker,so if they can't find the time to visit genuine claimants, they are never going to find the scoungers.
