I didn't take any benfits when I gave up work to become a full time mum because it was entirely my choice not to be working and I wouldn't have felt right about taking job seekers allowance when i wasn't 'job seeking'
However in the past, when I've been made redundant or after college I did sign on and felt no qualms about it because I was trying damn hard to find a job and I needed the money to live on.
I think people have a problem with those that just feel they are entitled to as much money as the state can give them and don't feel they ever have to give anything in return. Or with those who claim disability when there is **** all wrong with them apart from laziness.
Never be ashamed of who you are. No matter what you say on here someone will disagree with you - just ignore it.
Some people were born with a silverspoon and dont know what its like to struggle. Others just like putting people down. If people haven`t got anything nice to say or something constructive just think what sad lives they`ve really got.
I'm ont on benefits either, like yingyang, I'm choosing to stay at home with Mini Boo so I'm not seeking any work.

Still I can't help but take a sadistic pleasure in trying to wind Bob up by saying i'm soaking up his taxes like a sponge ;-)
ont???
I used to sign on about 20 years ago, couldn`t always get Tuesdays off to do it, so I didn`t bother

im a single mum claiming income support!
I don't mind my taxes helping those that are genuinely hard up, but what gets me is when that money is blatantly spent on cigarettes and booze and "having a good time" then the next minute they claim they haven't got any money left to feed the child etc.
sometime people assume being on benefits is the easy option, try being a lone parent all you lucky people who have full time employment with partners,
Dassie that is a minority of people and frankly a stereotype, and it's a really unhelpful one.For various reasons we have a safety net for people who are having difficulties and in no way should they be made to feel less because they are claiming benefit. If you are not eligible then you can't get it, it's as simple as that. Life does not always go to plan for everyone and there is no shame in that.

crete i am a lone parent
and nnoooooooooo i wud never c my son without food, nappies, etc all tho i do go out once a month

The people slagging off people on benefit, are probably those who are fortunate enough not to have to rely on it.

I am a lone parent (divorced) and too had to rely on income support for several years, as it was difficult to find work.

I hated admitting it too. But lone parents deserve a pat on the back for raising children by themselves. Its not an easy job.

Dont get upset about any remarks havinmysay.
Do people really do that, clarion? It would honestly never occur to me to report someone or check up to see if they were entitled to a certain benefit.

i understand what u mean clarion it only takes the littlest falling out for it to get in the wrong hands but im not doin anythin wrong im not claimin anymore than i should
The only reason why people slag off people on benefits is because so many abuse the system. You have got to admit that there are a hell of a lot of people out there who just want to scrounge, I see a lot of 'sick' people working for cash, I also see an awful lot of people who get mobility allowance who don't deserve it.

Dreaming - The harder I work the more FORTUNATE I become. Why should we be told how wonderful you are, according to you, for choosing a bad partner to have a child with, you makes yer bed.

al ucard for your info i did not 'choose' my babys father
yes i did get caught but i certainly didnt decide to have a baby so i dont have to work.
its not as simple as that!
Al Ucard. I didnt ask to be told how wonderful I am. I was telling havinmysay, that she is doing a good job in raising children by herself.

You dont know my personal circumstances, as they are no business of yours anyway.

But I get sick of people having a go a people on benefits. Yes there are those who milk the system. But lone parents, getting income support, are getting that, because they are advised to claim it.

I work now. Full time, I pay tax. And I dont begrudge any of my money being paid toward people who genuinely need it.

So get off your high horse!
There is no need to be ashamed of it and I can understand why it would upset you. I have recently become a single mum and its only by virtue of the fact that my employers are really understanding and are willing to let me work the hours that suit me that I do not need to guive up my job. I actually had a little looksy for a job that would suit me better without having to make the demands off my current employers and there is nothing. Childminders and nursey run for people who work 9 - 5 but who actually does those shifts anymore.
Part of the problem is people not taking responsibility for their own actions. I don't begrudge handing over a percentage of my hard earned income to support those that really need it, I also appreciate anyone who can raise a child (well).

I have worked at a lot of homes where there are singles or couples, who decide not to work becuse it's easier not to, F and blind in front of their SPROGS, tatoos everywhere, FAGS, FAGS and more FAGS, they always have the latest gadgets, they are the first to have Dvd players, new computers, Ipods, the latest mobiles flat screen TVs, their houses are always a complete dirty 5hit tip, central heating on full blast full time, and they look at me like the've trodden in something horrible and they never say please or thank you. These are the people that make people like me soooooooooo mad.
I know some people on benefits are scroungers but not all, my son is on invalidity benefit,he broke his back and shattered the hip joint nearly 4 years ago,he is stll off work,he is 28 years old,he gets 92 per week, and all he wants to do is get back to work, but nobody helps him,he hates his situation, so unless you know someone is scrounging, please don't assume they are all lazy gits.
