My dear wife has placed a small saucer sized omelette pan directly from the hob on to our new quartz kitchen worktop. (Thank God it wasn't me or I would not be typing this). The result on the black worktop is an obvious burn ring. we have tried scrubbing, light sanding and Granite worktop polish and it won't shift. My pride and joy blemished. Any suggestions how to rid of it ourselves and erase the blot on the landscape before I resort to professionals. Ta in advance.

Is it quartz, retro, or something like a Silestone / reconstituted material.
Quartz worktops are usually made of reconstituted stone (quartz chips) mixed with polyester resin binders.
It's the resin that burns, causing the mark.

People suggest all kinds of folk-remedies usually involving baking soda or toothpaste.
Maybe Ok for minor blemishes, but in your case, Retro, I guess professional re-finishing is needed. (Not my area of expertise I'm afraid.)

For that reason, I always fit these each side of a hob............

I know it's too late now, but possibly.......... fitting them now (over the mark) might be enough to take your eye off the damage.

Sorry I can't be more use.

Many thanks to you all for your time and advice. Looks like a call to the professionals and withhold the housekeeping. :-)
I feel for you, retro. We always opt for a cheaper worktop because we know we won't properly look after a top notch worktop.
Oh what a shame. We have black granite but it’s solid granite and nothing touches it. I really hope you can get it sorted.

I always place a thick wooden chopping board, on hand and close by. if I take hot utensils out the oven or from the hob. I reckon she must feel bad about it and it was a moment without thinking. Hey Ho. Nobody was burnt.
Get an attractive toughened glass 'worktop saver', and hide the burn under it.
First world problem. Does it really matter? (Apart from She Who Must be Obeyed).
