Now I’m not complaining - simply perplexed. Yesterday when I got out of bed and put my foot to the floor my ankle hurt, and this morning I noticed three little bruises on the front of my foot about level with my ankle. It’s not swollen and I don’t recall twisting my foot or knocking it. What can it be?

Limping off in anticipation ….

No idea..........nothing hits me in the face.
Based upon a bit of rudimentary first aid experience, I'd suggest that the bruising might indicate a minor tear to a ligament, probably at the point that it attaches to the bone. (Based upon Doctor Google, that might well be your anterior talofibular ligament).

It can be amazingly easy to damage a ligament. I once had to deal with a boy who'd done nothing more than fall over while playing football, yet his knee ligament had completely detached itself from the bone. Similarly, my aunt had to give up riding her moped because simply twisting the throttle damaged the ligament in her wrist.

What sayeth the mighty Sqad to my suggestion though, I wonder?
One goes to bed fine and wakes up with a ligamentous tear?

Naaah! unless naomi was involved in "adventurous sex play."

Tut! Bloody chandelier!!

Thanks Chris.

What’s to do - anything? Or am I permanently detached?
Foot-in-mouth on Answerbank once too often !

(Sorry naomi, only joking)
. . . and I hope it gets better soon.

Naaah! ............... //

It may well be not a ligamentous tear, I don't know, but it is possible to sleep deeply with one's ankle twisted in an awkward position & awake with severe pain, - I've done it (drunk !) & been hardly able to put weight on my foot.

It could be that the pain in the ankle & the bruises are unrelated. My doctor talks of 'bagatelle bruises' which we all get from knocking into things & tight shoes & clothing a don't really notice them happening until some time afterwards.

Just a thought.
Khandro/Buenchico.........maybe.
I'm tall and I deliberately don't have a thingy (the opposite of a headboard) at the foot of my bed, because I sometimes sleep on my front and let my feet hang over the end of the mattress. But when I am in France, the bed is not king-size and I get hurt on the front of the leg at ankle level.
I see you (Naomi) as too short to have that problem. But I thought I'd mention it anyway. I hope it wears off and doesn't return.
Aetheist - it comes of when she insists on sleeping on top of the wardrobe, ready to pounce on our AB indiscretions..... hope it gets better soon, naomi.
Could it be the onset of arthritis or something similar? Whatever caused it and whatever it is I hope it's better soon.

(could it be aiming kicks at other ABers?)

I'm ok, LJ - limping along - but thank you very much for thinking of me.
