As I grow older, I seem to notice more and more the things some people say to me that make me feel the age I am.
Nobody ever called me dear when I was younger.
Nobody ever says to a young person , 'Do you know someone who can do this for you on the internet?' I get this all the time now!
Yesterday I was at the hospital for a procedure that is done on the ward where there are nurses and a sister.
Standing right in front of me, the sister said to the nurse, and what is this young lady's name?
It really annoyed me that she didn't ask me herself, but that she referred to me as a young lady which I'm obviously not.
Perhaps it's just me, but I wondered if anyone else gets reminded all the time that they are getting on in years?

When I was in my 40s, I was with my mother in a New Forest restaurant where coffee fill-ups were free, and when the waiter came round I availed myself of the offer but my Mum declined. To which the waiter, turning to me, said,"Does your lady wife (another awful usage) realise it's free". Fortunately, as the waiter had been giving us a few amusing moments throughout the meal with his behaviour around the tables, we just found it very funny.
Barsel. My parents were the same, my mother used to have fierce moods and my father used to call her the dragon.
I'm another one who doesn't care what people call me - luv, dearie, old girl, young lady etc etc etc - I'm not that precious.
I have a young friend who calls me Hun. I hate it. But obviously she still sees me as young!! So I'll forgive her. My mum gave her care home a good telling off when they called her darling. 'I'm not your darling so don't address me as such'. I must take after her. Mind you I called a young man sweetheart when he helped me in a supermarket. I'm surprised he didn't run for his life!!
It's very common around these parts to call eople sweet heart.
