I have now found a link to the report I mentioned earlier that investigations suggest at least 87,000 civilians have died in that city since Feb 24.

In fact a figure of 110,000 has been seriously suggested.

That will be quite a fait divers for Putin's obituary when it comes

Sometimes you just can't find the words you want to say.

One can only hope for justice to be done and for a brighter future for Ukraine.

That would actually be way more than the number of combatants killed even if you take the Ukrainian figures of 48,000 Russian and 20,000 Ukrainian.
I saw a stat also that showed the number of civilian installations: schools, public buildings, etc destroyed by the Russians and it dwarfs the number of military installations they’ve hit.
Their only major achievement widespread death and destruction.

They reckon Putin's replacement could be worse than him still.
I can't believe Putin's replacement could be worse LadyCG.
It's a crying shame that Russia has embarked on this slaughter. I wonder if Nuremburg still has a courthouse.
Tomus, there are senior officials in Russia who are in favour of starting an all-out nuclear war with the West.

They would lose - big time.

We would all lose - big time.

Two words: Nikolai Patrushev.
Tho if rumours are to be believed he’s unlikely to take the reins other than in a hardline coup.
The probable éminence grise behind the FSB takeover of Russia. Probably the man behind the apartment bombings, the Dubrovka siege ****-up and the disastrous Besksn siege termination
I doubt that LadyCG. Most of these people are not insane. They are calculating and pragmatic.

A successor to Putin would look at ways they could extricate themselves from the whole bloody mess. Wishful thinking on my part perhaps but there you go.

There you go bednobs.

As promised :-)
id imagine anyone who takes over after putin would think, erm how to make the russian people happy again less i get bumped off, have to be a real saddo to think the invasion was worth it in blood and treasure let alone continue it.
Oh, dear Heavens! It was horrible enough without these figures.

One thing I do know is that if Russia is not stopped in Ukraine and made to retreat; if, in fact it should win the land it desires - then no country would be safe and it would 'pick off' other countries until we would be fighting with our backs to the wall. We must support Ukraine with all the means we can. They are paying in blood for us as well as themselves.
Kherson - the russians just walked in, didnt they?
Now the Ukrainians want it back and will have to pay big time

I feel sorry for the people of Kherson: they thought things would go on. Speak a bit more Russian, life a normal, until the Mayor was carted off to a concentration camp
oops!

They didn't quite just walk in.
And the locals were organising public demos against the occupiers at first until things got nasty.
But partisans operate in the city now, as they also do in Melitopol and a lot of local collaborators have been assassinated. The russian-appointed head of Kherson has already abandoned ship to Voronezh, Russia, as the eagle-eyed spotted on his video address to his "people".
I think the return of Kherson to Ukraine is inevitable, but i might not be quick. The Russians are getting pounded mercilessly, and the famous Antonivsky bridge really is ***** now.
