Which model would you recommend - its a minefield out there !!
If you can get a Nokia1100 then you wont get much simpler ... or look for a good condition Nokia 3510 or 3510i on ebay or new ... large clear keys, colour screen, poly tones ... not much else but this keeps it simple ... 1100 is non colour with slightly smaller keys but a bit more compact ... if you can get a Nokia 6310 or 6310i then get one but they are rare now (new) ... amazing battery life and again very simple ... Go for unlocked (it will take any network SIM card wich you can pick up for 5+ ... vodafone good cover but a bit dearer to use day to day ... O2 similar but a bit cheaper ... try and avoid 3 ... best thing to do is ask your friends /neighbous in your home area what network they are on to give you the best idea of the best signal strength ...

I am quite interested in the ones on the Tesco website that wnjxc21 just gave me as I want a new one and I want to put my SIM into it - I have a Motorola at the moment. I want a colour one with camera but the keys seem so small and I can't see the text messages with my eyes without my reading glasses !
Hi again, If you want to have a closer look try

http://www.NokiaHowTo.com

you can select any of their models and use ineractive demo to see them close up, and see how they work..

If its your phone number you want to keep, then you can have it swapped to the new sim easily,

just ask you current network for a PAC code and then you can take you number with you

or as Pingu says have the new handset unlocked and keep your same network, it's about 5

I always have sony ericsson which are not the simplest of phones, but i like lots of features...anyways, check around the nokia site to see if any are suitable...hope this helps!
