I am no good at lying

I had this situation at work the other day, needed to "cover" for a colleuge. He was supposed to stay with me and lock up the building but he went, which i didnt mind. But then i had to lock up with the manager and she asked where he was. I just said he had to get a lift home and he had arranged it for 7 and not quarter past when he was supposed to finish.

I feel bad that i might have got him into trouble, i mean he does tend to push his luck a bit in general, but i always like to be nice to people but cant lie for them.

Well Steve, you remained at work and your colleague did not and it was noted by the manager. Your colleague has got himself into trouble, not you - but tell this guy never to put you in a difficult position again by taking advantage of your good nature.

But he always does it. i dont mean going home early just lots of things he should not. Well ok i took an extra 10mins for lunch the other day as i was really tired and doing a 13 hour day but i dont do it everyday.

I would never say anything to him as i dont want to provoke an argument, he is a really moody person at the best of times.

Hum ok well if i am put in a situation by him again then fair enough. I mean sometimes i go say at 6 but thats my finishing time, most weeks i stay till quarter past but i have no obligation to do so and when i have to leave on time he gets mardy.

He is one of those people who just does not give a dam and i am the opposite. I got employee of the month in view of the fact that i will always try to help people and do my best most of the time.

I dont know if i was his boss i would have words but hey its not my place!

I sympathise with your boss. I certainly wouldnt want to stay at Burger King any longer than I could get away with.

juddlinski - Steve doesn't work in Burger King he works in a shop so don't make assumptions.
Steve, Sweetie next time he puts you in that postion ask this man to tell you what he wants you to say then say to your boss '???? told me that he was getting a lift' that way you are telling the truth. If this man gets in to trouble it's his problem not yours - they wouldn't have given you employee of the month if they didn't htnk you were good!!

I have not done the coffee morning yet - its this friday, just sorting out what cakes to make. I am scared i will end up making too many and no one will eat them all.
