I think that might be a once-in-a-lifetime incident.

I read a couple of the comments at the bottom of the page, one said that a tortoise could be lifted by one person. I doubt that - the word giant sort of infers that it is one huge animal.

Tortoise on the run?
Do people keep giant ones as pets? Didn't they miss it?
A giant tortoise can weight over 400 kg (roughly 60 stone), so I certainly wouldn't want to lift one on my own!

The strangest 'obstruction of the tracks' message I had to put out over the PA, while working at a railway station was probably the one about an obstinate swan on the line!
14.55 Apparently it had escaped from an Aquatic Centre.
yes, well you can be personally executed by the Queen if you harm a swan.
It is under a slow train to nowhere.
The tortoise was crossing the Norwich-Stansted railway-line when he was robbed by two passing snails.

When the Norfolk police eventually showed up, they asked the tortoise if he could identify the culprits.

The tortoise, understandably still shaking from the incident, cried ‘It all happened so fast!'
