Anyone watching? Quite feisty from the off. Sunak has gone straight for the jugular, Truss actually looking competent for once.
How on earth did these two ever get on at government meetings?
Safe to say that the loser will not be getting a job in the cabinet.

ich, Tories are pragmatic, we base our choice on only one thing the ability to win elections. Clearly opinion varies on which of the candidates is better for that but that is the only factor.

Lol, clearly.
The ability to win an election but no clue how to behave honestly not run the country effectively and competently.
Could easily pass for Johnson’s epitaph.
// The ability to win an election but no clue how to behave honestly not run the country effectively and competently.//

yeah foo ( AB speak)
Johnson would volunteer the nearest classical Latin for that is

( omnium consensu: capax imperii nisi imperasset)

by all consent, capable of being emperor if he had not reigned

Paxo said it of Boris BUT it was around with MacMillan ( used by him or about him 1962)
psssst....it finished quite a few hours ago.
Indeed. But it's still headline coverage on the so-called "news" and it's getting on my nerves.

I'm astounded why anybody should take such an interest in this. These two are promising the Earth and making dozens of pledges to do everything that they have not done despite both of them being senior members of government for two years or more. Suddenly they pledge to cure all the country's ills if they are elected. Why do people listen to this drivel?

This load of cobblers should be relayed by Zoom to the local Conservative Clubs. Those among Conservative Party members (the only ones with a say in the outcome) who can be bothered can make of it what they will and cast their votes accordingly. For the rest of the country, it's a load of waffle from two people competing for the top job, and all it will serve as is fodder for the media over the next couple of years. They will say, "But Prime Minister, in 2022 you pledged that in your first days in office you would end all wars, cure all illness, stop illegal immigration, ban strikes and get the price of petrol down. Why have you done none of that?"
People actually watch this ? I guess Tory voting members might, but I suspect most are already decided. (I found some drying paint that needed watching instead.) We'll get whoever we get. (Has Boris decided not to resign after all, yet ?)
You dont get a charismatic leader ( Hitler, Musso, ) for seventy years and then two come along at once
Trump and Boris

and when the bubble bursts as indeed it must
they say - what happened - it seemed so obvious at the time

And there we have the issue. The grab for power is the only thing that matters. It doesn't matter if the candidate is best equipped to lead the country or not. That's the problem with politics in general, it's all about power, what's best for the public is way down the list of priorities.
surely though Mozz no-ones going to pick a candidate they know will lose elections.... so am not sure what you point is?
I wouldn't claim to know much about fashion, but if Truss had her hair styled as Thatcher did in her prime might it help her garner votes in the shires?
no need Sandy, she's miles ahead anyway. That may come in 2024 when she has to appeal to the electorate though.
NJ, "This load of cobblers should be relayed by Zoom to the local Conservative Clubs."

Unless you are strapped to a seat and forced to watch or listen to the debatesYou're not forced to watch the debates, watch or read any news items about them.

Bobbin, my point is that caring about the nation shouldn't be a secondary ideal. They should get behind the right candidate and make them electable. Let's be honest, they could probably make Mr Bean leader and still have enough to beat Labour.
