Will The Tories Learn From Yesterday?

Hopefully the drubbing they received yesterday spurs them into action.

Net zero, hundreds crossing the Channel daily, rising inflation, highest taxes for yonks rising interest rates and unaffordable fuel is what the voters want.

Johnson could still sort this and go on to win the next election but it must be actions not just hollow words and soundbites. Net zero must go, for the UK that is a big contributor to many if what I have highlighted, but can the Prime Minister stand up to his wife?

Interesting times to come maybe?

The Tories may replace Johnson but they are in no danger of losing in 2024. Blair suffered similar mid term drubbings mid term, from Hague for example but still cleaned up at the next GE.

I would rather not take the chance. There is real anger growing, now is really not the time for complacency. He needs to drop the Net Zero and as tax receipts are high drop the ridiculous raise they just did which effectively taxes jobs.

And remember they could get in 'through the back door'.

YMB, I'm not sure at all that everyone supports the government's efforts to combat global warming - that's a matter of contention and personally I think their aspirations are unachievable. However, I think you're very much mistaken about what middle England wants. No one wants high taxes, high prices, or expensive fuel, but it is what it is, this is what we are left with, we aren't alone, and those middle Englanders with a modicum of sense are very well aware of that. The problem seems to me to be that the whingers want it all. They were very happy to take furlough payments - and have businesses supported financially - and to take advantage of the cheap meals the government subsidised to kick start restaurants again - but when it comes to thinking about where the money for all of that came from, and why prices are rising, they forget completely that, whether it be Covid or Mr Putin's war, everything has to be paid for. It's almost as if they expect a magic money tree to suddenly sprout to deal with their 'wants'. Yes, the government makes mistakes, Boris makes mistakes, but overall I think this government has done - and is doing - a damned good job in unprecedented circumstances.

Absolutely. They’ve massively increased alcohol sales to businesses local to Downing Street during lockdown, managed to save the tax man a lot of work by dodging it for a few years despite immense wealth, kept an interior designer in gainful employment and helped her avoid furlough, kept Metropolitan police detectives busy and tested their mettle, maintained the wealth of the gas, oil and electricity companies with eye watering profits, let their Russian friends sort out their financial affairs prior to sanctions and managed to break records in relation to a cost of living crisis.
They even managed to write off billions in PPE fraud too in a conjuring trick that would have left Penn and Teller open-mouthed.
The Prime Minister set precedents of his own, no mean feat and remained on his lofty perch while all around him resigned in the wake of scandals and fiascos.
We’ve not seen such a strong mindset since the captain of the Titanic gave the infamous order of “Full steam ahead and **** the icebergs”.
We have so much to be thankful for.

Middle England is Mondeo man/White van man. They are the ones who make a difference in an election, not the die hards on all sides.

I suspect you never talk to that group from your comments. I can assure you there is real anger and that is what worries me.

Thanks for pointing me towards a prediction.
I have no idea who will win the next general election and quite frankly don’t care.
Odd though that Tory voters tend to deflect bad results and criticism into a comparison with their opposition when they ought to be doing all they can to improve their own status and reputation.
As for my prediction, Johnson will not be the Prime Minister for very much longer, but one doesn’t need the skills of Mystic Meg to foretell that.

As usual the Tory Faithfulls on A/B rally around their leader and The Party. Trying to convince themselves that they didn't take a Thrashing from the opposition Parties yesterday ,they actually think they won.
This is what happens to a person when they have been radicalised by one man "Boris" he said they need not wear masks anymore so now he has kitted them out with Blinkers.

Green policies seem to be attractive to the younger voters so Johnson is unlikely to ditch them wholesale without getting the reputation as an old fogey's party and out of touch with younger voters worries.
Many of the losses in this round of local elections were only to be expected imo
