I've watched coverage of this terrible case tonight on ITV and BBC, but neither of the reports or the information in the above link explain why it has taken nearly five years for the case to come to court. Does anyone know?

Take a guess,gg,take a guess.Same reason the cops didnt want to investigate the Muslim paedophile rape gangs.
The Government won't properly fund the Crown Prosecution service, meaning that it now often takes them a couple of years to prepare a complex case.

Then there's a further delay in getting a case before a court. Pre-Covid, there were already very long waits for a Crown Court date, largely due to cuts in the number of actual courts but with the situation further exacerbated by many barristers pulling out of criminal aid work because they simply couldn't live on what it paid them. The need to keep courtrooms Covid secure then added even further to those delays.
I hope gg sees chris* s reply .
The courts have been in abeyance for over 2 and a half years due to covid.

Thanks for the replies on this and the other thread, and I've read a report in today's Times, but still no explanation for the shocking delay in this coming to court. Can't just be covid - he died in 2017.

And where has the mother been since his death - in custody?
I hope she is gg.
She was charged last July and held on remand
She was first charged in December 2017 along with her friend or uncle, Timothy Busk. Busk has since died so whether that could have affected the timeline for the trial.
