so we finally realise that if we went to get away from Fossil fuels we need nuclear power. Renewables all help of course but they are very expensive and cannot do the heavy lifting we need. So well done to the government for finally waking up and smelling the coffee. Oh and while you are at it, close down that Drax abomination too.

Good news - for the long term.

Now for the closer and mid term lets get NS oil pumping more and get some fracking done.

And stop wasting tax payers money on ruddy windmills.
I'm more concerned about millions having to decide between heating and eating. I really don't care about our emissions considering we only contribute is it 1% of the worlds emissions. So with that in mind let's just start pumping that oil and gas out of the North sea and start fracking. Tell the green nut jobs to go forth and multiply.

itchycoopark: "new judge I'm well aware of its connections with the Canadian forests i was commenting on the statement it should be closed down now ,without any thought," - I have given it considerable thought, have you? Here's a few things to be aware of regarding Drax:
1) it burns wood, wood from trees that are hacked down in north America.
2) Guess how that wood gets here? it's transported by ships, several everyday, guess how those ships are powered? Diesel, which is refined from oil, a fossil fuel.
3) they claim to replace every felled tree and I believe them, but can you tell me how a sapling can replace a 200 year old redwood?
4) They are anything but the "carbon neutral" - that is claimed!
now have a little think and tell me how Drax can possibly be a good thing.
over to you........
//Tell the green nut jobs to go forth and multiply.//

I totally agree. The problem is that one of them lives in number ten and has gone forth and is multiplying!

Get her out of there and we might get somewhere.

dont take as b****y stupid i KNOW all of that
DRAX has been a good thing for decades, yes its not now( if your a carbon neutral bloke ) but you tell me what's going to replace this 6millon homes supplier ?
over to you
in the short term
Question Author
Drax has never been a good thing, how can it ever have been a good thing? Please explain.
Question Author
"but you tell me what's going to replace this 6millon homes supplier ?
over to you " - well in the short term anything is better than drax, even a coal fired power station is better than drax in terms of the amount of CO2 emmisions overall. (that includes the ships the transport the wood from 4000 miles away, for example)
i given up when i read "Drax has never been a good thing" you mean like all the other power stations across the uk
what planet are you from,
ive done with this subject,

Question Author
then tell me how it ever has been a "good thing", how is it climate neutral for example, they keep telling us it is but how can it be?
//...but you tell me what's going to replace this 6millon homes supplier ?
over to you//

Re-convert the boilers to burn coal. It will have an immediate effect of the installations emissions because coal produces less harmful stuff to produce the same amount of electricity. There's plenty of coal in the UK and it would be preferable to mine it rather than let someone else do it 5,000 miles away and ship it in.

The problem is that won't happen because "coal is bad." Well wood is even worse but it didn't stop them converting Drax to wood.
// It was partly hesitancy over nuclear power that has landed Germany in the predicament it now finds itself.//

and started saying that the last twenty years ( bring Russia into Europe) was a big big mistake

we have no nuclear industry: no engineers, no training schemes, we have closed the uni courses on it - so it is back to sq 1
OR buy in...
I agree. It’s scary. I’m morphing into Tora.
whickers Ich
scary indeed
BUT
you could never morph into TTT - he is - a one off
//we have no nuclear industry: no engineers, no training schemes, we have closed the uni courses on it - so it is back to sq 1//

Not true. My Nephew has a Masters in Nuclear something or other only just recently, went to work for MOD but there were many others in his year and at other Unis.
The MSc in Nuclear Science and Engineering will prepare you for a career in industry or academia by providing a thorough grounding in the science and engineering that underpins today’s nuclear energy systems.

beg pudding - and it was a Bristol grad who said they had all been closed

i don't know whether ttt is just i'll informed or a send up merchant with the answers he given me, its got to be the latter surely ?
Question Author
take no notice of me if you like, read what the judge says.
So I can expect my energy bills to lower sometime in the 2030s?

Question Author
gromit, it's all about moving towards a future away from fossil fuels, of course it's not going to happen in 5 minutes.
