I heard on the chase that No 10 was built on a former brewery .Wonder if there other interesting places built on interesting places .

I also didn't know the answer but I "guessed" at brewery as I thought that that was the most appropriate answer :)

The Scottish Parliament building, at Holyrood, is also built on the site of a brewery ;-)
The house I used to live in at Staines was built where a plane departing Heathrow came down (built some considerable time after the crash I hasten to add, but there was a suspicious mound in the garden which I never investigated).
Buckingham Palace is reputed to have been built upon the site of a gay brothel that operated in the 1600s.
The opera house in Paris is on the site of the Bastille.

The Old Bailey is built on the site of Newgate Prison amd Marble Arch is where Tyburn Gallows once was.
Kings Cross Station and most of the other termini were built on thousands of slum dwellings.
