Privatising Public Services doesn't work (except for the rich shareholders and Directors of course). We've seen it with the Utilities, the Transport Services and here the Probation Service (now rescinded fortunately).

Yet the Tories are hell-bent on making the NHS the next one (bits of it already done, by stealth of course). Giving away publicly-funded institutions to their ultra-rich Crony Supporters. Robin Hood in reverse, rob the poor to pay the rich.

And your prove is where?

Also lets not forget Labour did it by stealth hiving a fair bit off to Virgin etc (Admin)

In addition its interesting to note that some operations can be done cheaper by engaging a private company than using the NHS. One needs to ask why.

Bottom line is the NHS needs a ground up shake up and slim down - or it wont exist in 10 years private or public.
The difference is the State probation service worked reasonably well. The State health service does not. I believe (though have not recently checked) that plans are afoot to return the probation service to public control.
Regardless of efficiency, the probation service is part of the judicial structure and should therefore be under state control. It is for the same reason that I am very much opposed to private prisons.
They would be advised to look at Canada Medicare services. It works extremely well.

Agreed, jd. Probation workers have the authority to impose quite severe restrictions and requirements on their clients, with the threat of court action of they fail to comply. That should not be the function of a private company.
The health service is privatised in Germany & it is second to none, - absolutely bloody marvellous!
How much does it cost you, khandro?
If I remember correctly the health service in Germany requires you to pay a percentage of your bill.

Nothing, it's paid for by the NHS.

If you want the best health service in Europe and have paid your national insurance contributions in full to retirement age, come to Germany.

Oh, 'nothing' isn't quite true, as I've related elsewhere, a couple of months ago I had a 'mini stroke' & had Rolls Royce treatment in hospital for 3 days, I received at the end of the month a bill for the food .....30€ !
I also pay a small amount on prescription meds, usually 5€ per item.
Thanks Khandro. How much does it cost the natives?
n. I really didn't know & just took a quick look at this:

https://www.expatrio.com/living-germany/costs-living-germany/costs-health-insurance-germany.

I know my son who is here pays a lot for himself, wife & student son.
But both he & his wife are both big earners.

But the myth that the NHS is free persists. NI contributions are also linked to earnings in the UK

Khandro is being a bit coy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_Germany

The total expenditure in health economics was about €287.3 billion in Germany in 2010, equivalent to 11.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) this year and about €3,510 per capita.[61]

I love the typical AB one liner: foo and its all FREEEEEEEE!

per capita - €3,510 - and so per household €12 000
and we are about £6k

if you pay more you get more - but remember you are buying healthcare and not long life
