I don't think the culprit was a cat, most likely a fox.

Would the fox go inside the house though.
I've heard of cats being little thieves.
That explains something which has been puzzling me for ages - why have I got four left gloves and only one right glove in my gardening gloves collection.

Mrs K. couldn't understand what happened to one of her garden clogs, gave up searching, bought a new pair & the same thing happened, we found one later by the river, she has to bring them indoors at night. It's a common occurrence, no one knows why, it was mooted that it might be something to do with leather, but I recently found one chewed up trainer, also on the riverbank, containing no leather at all.

Yes, very. I have only two fingers on my right hand. No you can't buy two finger gloves, only bespoke ones....
