Then you might as well say indefinitely, sqad. There will always be variants developing and their characteristics (rate of spread, seriousness of symptoms, etc.) will err...vary.
I believe that you - along with many others including, frighteningly, some in government and unsurprisingly some scientists - are approaching the advocacy of a "zero Covid" approach, which is totally unsustainable. We cannot maintain harsh restrictions with the threat of continual lockdowns "just in case". Threatened lockdowns are now being seen as the first resort when they should be the very last.
