we are going abroad for the first time his year and have booked our holiday.
I read somewhere not to take insurance with the travel agent but to get my own.

Do i just ring my own house insurer and add it on, as it were? Or do i need to go to one of these compare site thingymajigs?

Thank you!

Research your insurance cost on the web,you could save yourself a lot of money.Just input travel insurance on Google.
Have a great holiday.
Steer well clear of the travel agent`s insurance. As dennis said look on the internet. I get insurance for my mother from time to time and I find Flexicover as good as any. When I`ve compared other companies with them they come out well and if nothing else their website price will give you a good starting point to compare from
The AA (you don't have to be a member) and the Post Office and Tescos are quite competitive.
try the ppost office we usually use them and they are very good, you have to ring a seperate number if you have any illnesses to declare though.
Tesco's is good, also the Post office one. It's much cheaper to do your own. Your bank may also offer travel insurance, mine does I and get mine there now.

If you are going to a European Union country or Switzerland, you can get a European Health Insurance card (free).

You still need proper insurance too, but some companies waive the excess if you use the card as well.

Happy hols.
Sorry about my last link. Ooops.

This one actually works: www.ehic.org

I'd avoid your house insurer as well as the travel agent. They can be expensive too.
Good point - EHIC will cover for medical treatment in Europe, but you still need insurance for the travel and luggage etc.
Check your house insurance ... travel insurance is often included ... mine is..!

Failing that I've used these for the past three years... http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/
Great prices ... thankfully I've never had reason to claim ... I suppose that is the only time when any insurer is put to the test.
If you plan to hire a car (anywhere), look at www.insurance4carhire.com
