Who is the most skilled at not answering a question with an answer, bit a wrong answer?
My vote goes to Gavin Williamson, Education Secretary.

''That's a really good question and what we are doing b!ah blah blah and the most b!ah blah blah is what we need to do b?ah blah blah.''

I think Matt Hancock must be a close second.

I think that all MPs are given lessons in how to react to questions, whether on radio or tv, or in a public meeting.

Yup, and not just mp's, my late husband took the course and i have done brief similar training. The problem with answering that kind of question, is its like being asked "have you stop beating your wife yet" Say yes and there is an outcry from other professions, say no and you are a teacher hater. So what you do is give the facts...that the science advice given by the independent body is by known risk of serious illness and death because no only does this save lives, it protects the NHS.....that once the vulnerable proportion of the population is protected then yada yadayada.

I think any politician is a master of prevarication,they must teach it in M.P. school, I can’t bear to watch them on telly anymore. They remind me of the saying, “Nappies and M.P.’s should be changed regularly,and for the same reason”.

I think Sir Keith is a good candidate - you can virtually pre-empt his answer every time he is asked - he won't give a straight yes or no but says they will support the government but don't agree with them.

its not prevarication....the meejer ask questions like that deliberately to trap politicians, they are after headlines not facts.

TL no you would not because they would be made to resign in 5 minutes by the media. The last thing the public want is the truth. Politicians and the media live in symbiosis. Politicians don't give straight answers because media jockeys only ask questions to trip them up.

Not only did I watch that live briefing and he said no such thing but even their own article contradicts their headline.

Someone posted a Priti Patel speech the other day about the Covid virus affecting the world, it being a global problem, and every country in the world having to deal with it. Then 2 or 3 additional paragraphs of additional waffle.
I’m too drunk to find it now, but it made me laugh.

As advised, any politician can do that, because it goes with their job.

There is a wonderful take-off of Question Time done on 'Not The Nine O'Clock News where 'Robin Day' asks 'Lord Carrington' about what he would do if destruction from a nuclear bomb was imminent - his response began - "Well, leaving aside the holocaust for a moment ..." at which point 'Robin Day' instantly cut in with "Well I'm afraid we can't do that Peter ..."

I miss Robin, he smashed waffle and prevarication anywhere he found it, which was everywhere because he was a political interviewer.
