My mom was born in 1921, so for many on here I don't really have to point out the nightmares and horror she endured. She's still alive and doing very well. But do you know what she says more than any thing else about the present day.

Just a taste as I could go on and on, and I'm with her all the way. People are greedy, selfish, and never ever satisfied with what they have, what they want is more, once they have more, they want better, it never stops. They spend so much of their life wanting, they forget to live.
Even with the present problem, they can't stop wanting to do what they want, even in the face of death, and destruction of others. However bad things got during my lifetime people helped others in anyway possible, today its about me me me and my material goods.

I got her a new good quality fleece blanket for Christmas for when she's sitting watching TV, you would think I had bought her a new house. That great full, and over the moon for such a basic item today. She says that if folk don't get their priorities right very soon the price is going to be a lot higher than what it is now without a doubt.

Togo, Any directions were given to us when we were kids, ( all 6 of us) and I'm glad to say none of us have forgotten those directions. We are now giving back what we learn't. I might also add that she had to bring us all up mainly on her own, but that's much to longer story.

It’s a sweeping generalisation. Some people are selfish but not all.

Sir Tom is not the only one who has done something for others during the pandemic, there are literally thousands of stories of people going above and beyond but they don’t get the same level of publicity.

ummmm No doubt he has, and that's whats so bad in today's world, because a lot to do with house prices is down to greed. Second homes come to mind, council homes being sold for peanuts to property developers.

6 kids? Your mother was a part timer. You can tell her that if you like. :)) Mind you I suppose she had you and thought ... better stop. :)) Now my mam had me, then another 12 trying to get another as good. You are not by the way giving back what you were taught(or learn't as you put it)sic. If what you say of your mother is true then she never encouraged you to moan and agitate non stop as you do.

Who said bitter, uninformed?? very well informed after 100 yrs. Being blind to the problems, is part of the problem.

The best telling off I have ever had since I left school was from a 104 year old lady .. she insisted, "were I to
carry my tool box properly, I wont have back trouble when I get old" .. possibly wise words, but there again, she wasn't fitting her new curtain poles and doing some plumbing.
Much respect for your Mother and her wise words ..
It just goes to show that the water doesn't always run off the ducks back !
