Branthwaite is an old northern name - Cumbria and Yorkshire origins.

I was about to post when I saw Peter's post and almost choked on my port.

The book Peter cited was co-authored by the famous Margaret Branthwaite, a friend of mine. She was a very well known consultant in respiratory medicine and anaesthetics at the Royal Brompton Hospital who retrained as a barrister in the early nineties, eventually specialising in clinical negligence. She was a truly formidable barrister in court, much to the chagrin of many a NHS trust.
