Andy, just because it's written down in a forum, it doesn't mean people can't be overly aggressive, pushy, abusive and indeed toxic to someone who has a different point of view.

The choice not to read something doesn't take away from the intent to which it was written.
Mozz - // The choice not to read something doesn't take away from the intent to which it was written. //

But if the choice not to read it is exercised, the intent is irrelevant, since it is not read!

If there is a poster on here with whom I don't agree, and have no wish to engage, I simply ignore their posts.

If I choose to engage, then I must accept what they say and how they say it. If the effect on me is negative, and I still keep reading and responding, then the fault is mine for putting myself in that position.
Let's hope no-one you care about has to deal with online bullying, abuse or harassment. "Why did you read it", will not be a help to them.

That's probably why I wouldn't say it.

I am stating my views on this thread, on the basis that participants are going to be regular (adult) AB'ers - and if anyone genuinely wants to debate the subject of cyber bullying, by all means start a thread - I'll see you there.
No, but implying that it's their fault for reading it is more or less the same thing.
Good to hear the news about the stairlift, a great help for you Theland.
I think I'll take your advise and walk away from you and this thread.

Glad you're back with us and doing okay Theland.

If you see such an inference, then it's yours rather than mine.

If anyone feels strongly, this is obviously a debatable subject - start a thread ...
Exactly what other inference is there to draw from "the fault is mine for putting myself in the position [to read negative stuff]" than that the fault is anybody else's for reading negative stuff about them?

I don't do 'inferences' - I speak from my own perspective, as I did here, unless I am speaking in a general sense, in which case I will advise accordingly.

If you want to take two and two and make twenty-two from something I have written, I can't stop you, but obviously I am not going to continue to argue with you while you do so.
Nice to see you back , Theland .
I hope the stairlift works ok .
I've been watching Ravi on youtube , he's very good .
When Ravi died, I felt I had lost a personal friend.
