I never actually met v_e face to face, though we corresponded over a fair period. The nearest we got to meeting was last year when he almost came to the vernisage of an exhibition I had in Strasbourg; he went as far as checking flights a & hotels but on the last minute cancelled because he felt he, "might be in the way" & my protestations stating the opposite didn't work.
Sandy's late post (there might be more) yesterday, prompted me to write to the family this morning & pass on the information that no less than 67 people had sent their commiserations & best wishes to his family, - I used just one as an example, (Togo's).
v-e was 75 & this extract is from the reply I have just received from one of his granddaughters;
".............thank you for passing the message on and please thank people on our behalf for their kind words it really means a lot to us knowing that he was liked and has been thought about by so many people........
Again thank you for your wishes and we wish you and your family and all well-wishers a wonderful Christmas and new year! "
