We are on holiday in France, in a small gite attached to the owners house.
Heard a tapping noise on patio doors. There was a large black and white cat.
It came in and was purring and rubbing up to us both and wanting lots of attention.
It really made my day as I love cats and we don't have one. It left after about half an hour. I hope it's back soon.
We travelled down today. Horrendous traffic jam half way to Gloucester, we lost more than half an hour. Consequently when we got to the tunnel we were too late for our booked train and had to get a later one. But it didn't matter. We are staying inland not too far from Etaples.
The owners of the gite are both English and have lived here for eight years.
They left us a baguette, french cheese, a bottle of red wine and a fridge stocked with beer and water. Really nice touch.
We are back home on Monday night.

Hope you have a lovely time, caran... and your visitor returns xx
Lovely to have a feline visitor.
Enjoy your holiday.
Cats can really make a trip extra special. I remember a day trip I took to Amsterdam, where I spotted a beautiful cat in the window of a small café. I knew straight away where I'd be eating my lunch!

As soon as I sat down at a table in the café, the cat jumped on my knee. The owner was concerned that the cat might be annoying me but I assured her that I loved her company. She (the cat that is, not the café owner!) stayed on my knee throughout my meal and I felt sad to leave her. (The café owner told me that the cat had her own website and that she estimated that half of her customers only came into the café because they'd seen the cat!)

The forecast for Le Touquet is looking quite good for the weekend, so a trip to the seaside might be in order, I think. (Mers-le-Bain might be nice in the sunshine, too)
How lovely for you to have your feline visitor. Enjoy your holiday.
What an introduction to a holiday: A fridge full of goodies and a chat with le chat. I think I'm a little jealous...Anyway, enjoy the time.

Thanks for all lovely thoughts. Cat is back at the door. OH won't let her in again as he says it's too late now.
Thanks Chris for the weather tip. We love Le Touquet and it's on our list to visit again.
OH has found a large sea life place to go to. He had a moan when he found it was €25+ each to get in. I told him not to be a misery as we are on holiday so we are going on Sunday.
I hate it when people move and take their cats with them. I've met some really friendly ones over the years.

It's been a long time since I've been to France. What's the weather like?
I would bet that your little visitor is a regular for attention at that gite ;-),something like that would just make my holiday:-)

Hi ummmm, weather has been good really, sunny most of the day, nice but not too hot. Forecast is about the same that suits me. I don't like the heat.

bunkmoreland that's how I feel too. I really love cats.
I used to have one that visited for about three years, we had had a cuddle and I gave her titbits but she suddenly stopped coming. I felt really bereft. I didn't know where she lived so I had no means of finding out. I still look for her but to no avail.
When we were on holiday some years back there were 5 kittens living in the garden. The villa owner had left plenty of cat food for them. So adorable getting up in the morning to be greeted by them.
When cats get to you, you are lost forever! I would take any attention I could get;-) In Malta, the Upper Barraka Gardens have a "semi feral" population which love being fed!! Most people go there for the views, but I was there for the cats:-)
Question Author
I would go there like a shot but OH does not have same affection for cats. He tolerates them. But I was really surprised tonight how he accepted the rubbing and attention, even letting it on his lap!
There seems to be loads of feral semi feral cats across Europe.

Got to go bed I'm told. We are one hour ahead so it's nearly 2.00 am!
Thats the first step Caran! My husband was determined not to let the cat at our door, and which I let into the house have anything to do with him. Cat got onto his lap, snuggled in and he was lost:-)

If it's Maréis, in Étaples, it's ony €6.90 to get in (unless it's gone up a hell of a lot since 2016):

Great if you're a big kid, by the look of it ;-)
