I had to go and get a tub of white pepper today as my lad doesn't care for the black pepper grindy thing.
Last time I bought some it was a few pence.
79 pence !!

Been down to my local ethnic supermarket today and stocked up on herbs and spices. You get 4 times as much for half the price.

My earliest memory is also a big green bar of Sun light soap, that was used for the washing up and the clothes washing, lifeboy for body washing.
Tide, Daz, Omo, 1001, Sqezy are a few of the cleaning brands that Mum used later.
oh, and the good old standby... Stardrops, lord that stunk.

I echo what Melv says...Asian supermarkets are far cheaper.

i agree, when I did lots of cooking, I got a lot of my stuff in those Asian shops, loved my Panko breadcrumbs from there.

For things like salt and pepper the cost of the packaging tub they are sold in is over 90% of the shop price ! Think how much Salt there is in the Sea ! I think I have only bought pepper 3 or 4 times in my life. A tub lasts years (at least in our house)
