Why do we scratch our head when we are puzzled, I actually found myself doing that the other morning when trying to think of an answer to something, and before you suggest it no I haven't got head lice.

I don't scratch my head when im puzzled.... But then again if I did my hand would probably need surgically removing from my head by now!.
its like pointing to your wrist when you ask someone for the time - learnt responses as opposed to phsyiological responses i.e dilating pupils and increase of blood flow to erogeneous zones.... anyway. are you shure you haven't got nits?
I have noticed that i (and others) scratch the back of my head when i am talking to someone, but finding it uneasy to talk to them. Have you noticed Frank Skinner when he interviews people - he's always doing it.

Headlesspets, are you offering to check?
I believe it's some kind of self-reassurance thing, I've heard the body language experts mention this. I'm really interested in it & am going to look for a book so I'll soon be a mine of information. The good thing is you won't be able to see my body language & know if I'm making it up!!
I think the reason we do these things is because we are conciouse that when we ask the time or get puzzled, other people do the same - scratch their head or look at their wrist....
P.G - I actually find it quite therapeutic to do (in a kind of 'primatey' way) which is not to say i look like a gorilla... OR that i have an unhealthy attraction to head bugs....hmm.maybe i should take up knitting instead

Headlesspets, perhaps instead of taking up knitting, you should take up nitting!
