To be honest,I don't believe in it. But then again I am Aries!! ;) Seriously though... someone once said that the midwife at your birth exerts more gravitational influence than all the planets put together.Exept earth of course! To me when people read what their star-sign is meant to indicate about themselves they usually say "that's so me!!",but try this... Find someone who is say,Gemini, then read them the description of Capricorn. They'll probably say that that's them to a tee!
it seems impossible to me, all this was written down at a timw when we only knew about 5 planets and thought the world was flat, i read in the news recently that we've discovered another planet beyond pluto and if the planets influence our personailty then it must have been a spanner in the works until now. can't believe it on a scientific basis, but it is appealing on a spiritual one at times.
Load of old rubbish.
More of a supplementary question, really. Do astrologers believe in astrology? I mean the people who do the columns in the daily papers. Surely they are all con-men? They all argue that the two-line summaries for a whole star-sign are only meant as a bit of fun, and that they need your precise time and place of birth to do a "proper" horoscope, but, if so, what's the point of the column? How can anyone believe in such guff?
We need more astrologers like The Great Zaganza from 'Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul' by Douglas Adams - he provides Dirk Gently (whom he knows personally) with 'personal' horoscopes and private joke messages in his daily column (e.g. 'You are very fat and stupid and persistently wear a ridiculous hat which you should be ashamed of.' ). Quality.

I'm not a great believer in things astrological myself (curious to know what in particular has made you begin to 'see the light' though!) so whilst I can offer no specific insights into the field myself I can point you in the direction of The Astrology Shop. As well as being a useful source of info on all things astrological they also provide (for about 30) Character Portraits and detailed Year Forecasts, which make for interesting reading for those who are interested - they can be found at http://www.equinoxastrology.com/ or if you're ever in London, they're at 78 Neal Street WC2.
every thing has effect on other things...even if its a simple word.. eg if you say...Bush is insensitive....or Arafaat is a terrorist....then ..without doubt....the reader/lister will form some impression....even if he thinks you are wrong.. so every thing does have influence on the other thing.. Astrology deals .....with a limited part of such influence analysis.. it tries to find the impact of the motion of nine known planets on the daily lifes or individuals...or in the cosmos itself....and it takes birth...as the point of reference..... that is what was the configration..of planets at the point in time ...of a birth.... this configrations....changes...with each passing second...so each individual ...Has a different configration pattern......viz-a-viz time as well as location of birth.... ...though ....it can and does uses scientific calculations to find the exact locations of planets at a given point in time. But then it becomes subjective........with so many schools of thoughts ..... differing in how to calculate...how to chart....how to interpret..... .......and that where pure subjective reasoning .....comes in....with an accumulated wealth of knowledge...over centuries.....this influence ...or rather the interpretation ...of these influence is which defines astrology........ ...well thats may view.... hope it helps.
i find that natal astrology has similarities with some forms of psychology (personality tests in particular) this will no doubt make psychologists spit, but thats my observation. Part of the human condition is to make sense of the world around them - some live by natural sciences, others organised religion or philosophy... I personally think that as long as it doesn't harm oneself or others its ok. to end on a patronising note, its hard for humans to take responsibility for their decisions and actions all the time - so why not astrology, as long as it doesn't take over your life
DAVE POTTS that is great book, i also remember that the newspaper the horrible libra horoscopes were printed in had suffered a drop in sales by one twelth as a result...reckon that's the right way to spell twelth, surely there must be a v....dictionary....
Isn't it though? You're bang on about the drop in sales too :o)

Hello headlesspets - thought I'd see you on this thread! I certainly find it hard to take responsibility for my decisions and actions all the time - but normally only after I've cracked open the second bottle - that's how I make sense of the (often blurry and indistinct) world around me. What if it DOES take over your life though?
Potts- yes, not that suprising to find ME here, but you - hah! hilarious. yeeaas, what if astrology (or the other things prev. mentioned) takes over? then one is wasting a life really - take control! throw down your chains! vive la taking calculated risks based on empirical evidence! (not as catchy as the other two but you get my drift. innit)
Shaddup. :o)
1. There are about two births per second on earth. So why aren't there two Hitlers? Two Mozarts? 2. Everything may well affect everything else. But proximity is the key. The stars are billions of years away, even if we travel as fast as light travels the light (and other forms of energy) takes years to reach us. Remember that the ancients thought the stars and planets were people -- special, wonderful people who glowed in the sky and were gods. So if you were born when three of them were clustered together in the sky, the ancients thought that these three gods presided at your birth, and gave you gifts. Then when Christianity came along, they made the stars just stars, because they didn't want to worship false gods, but they did want to keep astrology. And people have been making money out of astrology from the time of the ancient Babylonians, who are the oldest people we know of to practice it. Know yourself. Then you can do a better job of predicting your future.
