Why is there an explosion of bad taste xmas lights just about everywhere - flashing coloured lights, illuminated reindeer and santa projections on outside walls??? Should be a law against it to protect those subject to epileptic fits.

true - didn't London have an issue with crossbows some time past?

If you want to see somewhere going totally OTT then this - and tricity prices are at least double - quite cleverly if you put them up, you have to put footpath lights in, in a particular sequence, which helps 'bind' everything together.

Oh no, I would move, clever but not for me. I would be the only unlit house in the area.
Cyclists with over-bright flashing LEDs on their death trap of choice will, of course, be exempt as they ignore every rule anyway.

No brighter than those neon bulbs that are all the rage with the boy racers and those reliving their 'yoof'. In my experience it's the ones WITH the lights that tend to cycle properly. Those without deserve whatever fate befalls them.
In the meantime I'm currently compiling(from my own camera) a youtube video of driving idiocy and pedestrians who consider themselves vehicle proof. There are new additions daily.
Awaiting results of proceedings from local constabulary on 2 instances before I'm allowed to post so will let you know when it's done.

As for diddlydo, first it was poppy sellers and now Xmas lights. What next? Children with cancer taking up hospital beds?

Not to my taste I must admit, but hey it's only once a year and gives pleasure to many.
There is a curmudgeonly old farmer locally, and when I first moved here I didn't understand why he was known as Vladimir Putin. It was actually a quite clever nickname, as despite appearances he's Christmas mad and has lights on absolutely everything, so someone apparently cracked the joke that he was the most 'powerful man in the world' because of his electric bill lol and it stuck.
I think it's rather charming that people who can be otherwise quite dour can get excited about Christmas still and make a massive effort with their lights, what harm does it do anyone else?
Actually, my nearest little town/big village has beautifully subtle white lights along the main street and the trees that line it - especially lovely when there's a heavy frost.

I have no problem with twinkly white lights in trees. It's the ostentatious multi-coloured all-singing all-dancing flashing displays that are clearly designed to "keep up with the Jones's" that I find offensive and inappropriate in the beautiful village where I live.

Like you did with your pathetic post about the poppy seller you mean?

Get a life......
The lights in this country have got nothing on some of the ones in the more modest areas of Queens on the way out to JFK airport. I think they all try to outdo each other. An example here https://queenseagle.com/all/2018/11/25/whitestones-world-famous-christmas-lights-are-back-on
Personally I like 'em, but a serious point Diddlydo, you are PART of the local community in your 'beautiful village' not the sum of it. Clearly other people enjoy their lights, and who is to say which point of view is inappropriate, they have as much right to do as they please as you. Try to cheer up and chill out a bit, you seem to be bothered by literally everything. Have a great Christmas x
I have no complaints about them at all, I love 'em, the more garish the better. It looks really dull when they're all taken down in the New Year !
