Slightly random question (there is a reason) but any personal recommendations for Lidos that are either still open or closed but still in existence, or stories or personal anecdotes attached to Lidos. I've just had a suggestion put to me which I'm quite keen on and i'm trying to grow the initial idea. x

I recall all the lidos I have visited, both as a kid myself, and later with my own kids all sold Bovril to drink in the Cafeteria and Oxo flavoured crisps.
Three one close to us in Cheltenham. Sandford parks. The largest in the country I believe. Went there years ago when children were small.

Brilliant, thank you all x
I remember tidal pools which you could call a lido I suppose. They were Victorian built, built on the beach and when the tide went out it left a saltwater pool to swim in. I remember being fascinated by them. There was one at Ilfracombe and also Lynmouth.
Minty, you in Hornsey, you could not have been far from me!
Lovely to see Pasta's posting about Plymouth lido being restored. When I was a student there in the late 80s it was still derelict. On our first night my new friends and I wandered down to the Hoe and sat there chatting for hours getting to know each other. We were saying how lovely it would be if it was restored.

It was a place where lots of homeless people congregated. I hope they found somewhere to go.

Sorry, kval, not the kind of stories you were hoping for, I guess, but your post sparked memories.
I remember the one in Kingsbury.

I used to take a little boy I looked after to this on in Hyde Park.

This was my local at least fifty years ago. From memory just the pool surrounded by a ‘pavement type patio’ all the way round.
At the shallow end was an all glass cafe.
During the school holidays we would take a packed lunch with bottles of diluted squash. Very rarely we were allowed to buy an ice cream in the cafe.
I remember the pool surround got very hot in the sun!
I lived in Tottenham when I first got married, early 80's not far from Green Lanes.
Is there a difference between a Lido and a swimming pool?As far as I can see they are the same thing.
I used to work in Green Lanes Tottenham .No sign of a Lido though . This was in 1970 1973.
My grandkids go to the Stonehaven lido then jump off the harbour wall into the North Sea.
