... seem to me all the uses of this world.

As in trying to engage Mikey or similar in honest discussion.

Bad starting point: "I right you, you wrong. I good, you bad" .

Preferred starting point: "I think I'm right (for these reasons), but you disagree because...".

Thank you, Tony. :)
Jourdain, Your thesis is clearly outlined here, by two of the sharpest kids on the block;

I am unsure what you are looking to get out of this thread vetuste.

If you find the exchanges on here beneath your intellect, there are plenty of other sites you can try.

If on the other hand, you are simply looking for an argument, then that is not the idea, and you run the risk of your thread being pulled.

Why not elaborate a little about what's bothering you - ?

Almost a perfect anagram, Jackdak.
The OP is whistling in the wind.
Khandro, I was too tired to watch it last night but excellent link at 22:05 Sun.
n. I think -and I'm not alone- Peterson (whom God preserve)is a man for our time. In the Steyn interview above, it is a well made point, the danger of how "incrementally", bit by bit, year by year, what is 'acceptable' is changed until we're all 'racists' and 'fascists' and god knows what else. As Steyn says, we should listen to this man.
Did you read the Spectator link I gave you by Douglas Murray on him?
Yes I did, Khandro. Thank you for that.
What strikes me often on these columns is the blatant dishonesty of 'questioners' and answerers.

We all have a political position, and I think it should be stated.

Thus, Vetuste might say he/she was an extreme right-winger, supporter of Brexit, anti-immigration, anti-Islam, and then go on to make his/her point.

Same goes for everyone.

BillB. Marxist, EC Remainer, pro-immigrants, sympathetic with Islam, retired, living in London. Enough?
//but I think that all you have to do is look at poor Mary Beard today. She is in tears.//

//I haven't read Mary Beard's contribution (a brilliant Latin scholar).//

well I think it is a case of 'Fear the Greeks bearing gifts' of
Timete Danaos dona ferentes....

ter daah ( exit vestitudinam togam)

[cries of - Danaos - dat dat weatherman?]

anyway - defending Oxfam - it is a bit like arguing - "child-murder when is it a pleasure?" or 'They had a point but six million is too many" - altho she should be allowed to express herself....
Khandro, thank you for your 22.05 post. I've just watched the excellent discussion. Juliet Samuel has an extremely interesting article in today's Telegraph where she examines 'the recasting of radical Left policies as religion'.
//BillB. Marxist, EC Remainer, pro-immigrants, sympathetic with Islam, retired, living in London. Enough?//

Trumpophobe?
jourdain; If you want a really exhilarating couple of hours - I wont put in the direct link - but you can google;
'Jordan Peterson biblical series 1, introduction to the idea of God, YouTube'
and see why he is presently blowing up a storm.
Thanks, Khandro. :)
//BillB. Marxist, EC Remainer, pro-immigrants, sympathetic with Islam, retired, living in London. Enough?//

Irrelevant. Just state your opinion on the subject in hand, and we'll make a judgement on what you actually say, not anything else.
This is an interesting thread, but I don't have clue what it is about, perhaps v_e could tell us, though perhaps he doesn't know either.
I'm reminded of Orson Welles and his, "The Woman of Shanghai".
correction: that should be 'The Lady from Shanghai'
