Once a file has been converted to an Abobe Acrobat document it cannot be updated, that is one of the main points of them.

I believe there are tools to convert an Adobe Acrobat document into Word and other formats which can be updated, but I have never done it.

Have a search on the web to find a tool that does it.
If the adobe document has not been locked you can copy and paste it into Word.
If it's not been locked, you can edit it with Adobe Acrobat Writer (oddly enough...)
Serif's PagePlus 11 will read and write pdfs (at a fraction of the cost of Adobe Acrobat full version). Also check out the free Open Office.
