..that as well as Gness I'm known as Mary.....my dad was one of eighteen children and the first born girl to each of them was named Mary.....and many of the sons married a Mary....

I am surrounded by Marys...have been all my life... and newbies into our family don't have many names to remember despite there being dozens of us.....just say Mary and you'll be grand....

My daughter's been to a play in Ireland today....The Six Marys....a one woman play about growing up in Ireland in the 50s surrounded by Marys....

The Mary who made her laugh most is the one who has given up church confession for a different type of confession....the recycling centre.....

"Bless me Father..it's been two weeks since my last visit...HAVE I REALLY DRUNK ALL THAT?!

Not sure how to take her laughter....... ;-)....x

Yeah...When my uncle was ill family came down often to visit. I introduced my OH to them. This is Richie, also Richie, another Richie and another Richie. This is Eddie and then I started pointing at the other Eddie's, and Thomas 1 2 3 4....Batty x 3...Oh,,,you already know Paddy :-)
oh my, we have a load of James, Roberts and Johns in both sides of Mr Alba's family.
Trying to explain which uncle is who to an 'in-comer' is interesting.

I know that feeling, Ummmm....but it does save newbies having to remember names....so that's something.... x

Hi, Alba......it's when you're a child....one of the Marys is said to have done something naughty and the first Mary into the room gets the clout..... :-(
We went to a family gathering in London. I got chatting to a really good looking lad. My dad pulled me aside and told me he was my cousin :-)
the joys of a large family!!
we have Uncle Rob in Oz, Uncle Robert in Canada, Uncle Robert in SA and one in NZ plus there's one in Holland.

Do folk not get together to name their kiddies? lol
would save a load of confuddling.

Some of the Roberts have even named their sons Robert so that really helps!! lol
That's the problem, they name them after each other. My granddad is named Batty, who has a son named Batty, who has cousins named Batty because they are named after my granddad..

We have...for a change...a couple of Margarets....Big Margaret and Little Margaret and that's what they've always been called...

Now that Little Margaret is bigger than Big Margaret it just sounds odd and a bit rude.... :-)
i was christened richard and i'm a big fellow so that's the only reason i can think of for being called big dick ...
I can't beat any of the 'family name' posts - I'm the only David for many generations in any direction (including sideways).

I do however have an irritating middle name - my Mum was a devout Royalist and my Dad an equally devout Republican - so when she said she wanted me called Charles (after the young prince) he was (by all accounts) apoplectic.

So she gave in and I was David with an added family name second.

What my Dad hadn't accounted for was my Mum going to the Register Office on her own - she gave 'Charles' as a third name - and then quietly put the Birth Certificate in the family filing cabinet.

I believe it was only when I started school that he spotted the deception ... and I spent years as 'the posh git with three names' ...

There must be a joke in there somewhere about Blooddy Mary's.... :-)
and that's the reason they are red-heads Patsy !!

Different sides of Mr Alba's infernal (lovely) family each have a Florence and an Edna.
Aunt Florence called her daughter Edna, and you'll never, ever guess what Aunt Edna called her daughter.....
Question Author
Robert?...Alba......x

Hi. Patsy...if there is you'll find it!!!.....

I have three names, Dave....not posh....just biblical.... :-(
Question Author
Ael....you must be right.....I can't for the life of me think of another reason.... ;-)
Don't laugh. My mother told me I was named after my father's girlfriend!
families be strange things, when the older alba arrived and we were presented with a boy, he never looked like any of the blinking names we had in mind.,

Have a lovely piccy of fil, Mr A and the baby with just the one name underneath, an added S to the surname purely for plural :-D

Babies do that don't they, get you all excited and arrive looking like summat different :-D
Happened to me with my Daughter Albs.. All the way through she was going to be Katherine..Until I saw her that is.
