I have just received a letter from N-power saying that they are rolling out the installation of smart meters. I have read some very negative articles and they all say that they offer no benefit or substantial saving Can I refuse to have one fitted? Any feedback or experiences would be very gratefully received

You can do that with simple maths on the normal meter reading. Hardly a benefit compared to the control someone will have from their office and data links that can be cracked and abused. Vulnerability mixed with Big Brother. For most the monitor will be a five day wonder that they'll pay for over time in higher bills.
...I think I'm smart enough to realise that when I use electricity, I'm paying for it....and the more I use, the more I pay...and not to switch things on when I don't need them....and I've never had an estimated bill 'cos I supply them with actual readings. Common sense really.

I phoned them today and explained that my meter was too far up for me to see to read it and even on my tiptoes I couldn't take a photo using my phone. They said in that case they can't fit it. I would have to pay to have the meter moved (not gonna happen) and then I'd have to phone them back. So that's one way of getting them off your back!
Just found this, first I have heard of this one. Yet more problems with Smart meters

This however was what I was looking for.
