Strange Name

I have found I have a distant relation, it is a man called Megday, I have never heard this before and wondered if anybody new the origins of this .

Maybe the name is to do with a Saint's Day celebration?

I take it Megday is the surname and not the first name?

If it's on a census form, then it's highly likely it was written down in error.

It was on a marriage form he is in his 60s now dont know if it is a foreign name ...

if he's in his 60's then Registrars were under strict instructions not to allow abbreviated names.

Maybe it's an alamgam of his mum and dad's names
Meg Dave and registrar got it wrong?
