for goodness sake..bang yer heids together and grow up !!
Well I must be a snob as well because I couldn't stand the Royal Family either. Thought it was awful, not funny at all.
But I think Liz Smith was a fine actress and it's sad she's died but she did have a good innings. RIP Liz.

She did, ladybirder, and was working until very recently. Her acting career didn't really kick off until she was in her late 40s but she certainly made up for lost time.

I hope there is a decent tribute to Liz on tv.
This was my favourite performance, God love her. She was terrific, wasn't she?

Lovely tribute to Liz here on the BBC, including my favourite Royal Family joke....."Can she have some thinly-sliced ham Barbara ? "

Mikey I think the quote was actually 'can she have some wafer thin ham Barbara' not that I wish to split hairs :-) wafer thin ham was all the rage at the time.
Margo....got it in one !....my mistake. I have looked for this quote all morning on YouTube, but was unsuccessful.

Wafer-thin ham, cut so thin that all taste of the ham is removed !
Thanks Margo ! Such a funny program !

I used to like the bits when Twiggy was on it ( another Royale Family actor no longer with us)

And Mary and Joseph from next door, when Joe started singing "I'll take you home again, Kathleen"

Priceless !
The completely dead pan performance by Craig Cash (co-writer) always amused me. Some excellent acting all round.
It was a fine example of ensemble playing, with everyone a strong character played by a wonderful actor.

As with all the very best comedy, laughter and tragedy are a nano-second apart, and you can find that in every classic comedy ever written.

Ms. Smith was a wonderful actress, and her passing is very sad.
I'm sorry she's gone, too, but glad to have had her acting away and enriching lives. I preferred her in 'Vicar ofDibley' and read her autobiography a few years ago. A tough, resilient and caring lady - very into toilets ! (providing clean water and sanitation in Africa). RIP indeed.
I love the Royle Family, a testament to Caroline Aherne's writing and wit (and Craig Cash too). The one on TV recently where Nana died was beautifully done (especially when Barbara was doing her hair) and soooooo moving. She did have a good innings, but RIP all the same x
I was sad to hear this, RIP Liz.
