Spoken to my friend this morning. Over the last ten days or so they have found a total of four dead birds in the garden. Two Greenfinches and two Blue tits. No marks on them, indeed there are no cats on their estate, and they are intact. Back of the house looks over steep sided woodland.
Any ideas anyone? I'm stumped.

We found a dead magpie in our back garden recently. It was gone the next day. I assume it made a meal for a fox.

Is the woodland reflected in the windows?
could be they are flying into the glass thinking it's a tree.
Perhaps they were fledglings that didn't cope with life away from mum.

Baldric, the bodies have been at the bottom of the garden, thank you. Hopkirk and woofgang, possibles, thank you, will pass on.
Are there any power lines nearby? Or an open plan type metal fence? I found a young starling like that near a similar fence. Because it could see through the fence,it maybe didn't notice the metal top and flew straight into it.

//the bodies have been at the bottom of the garden//

had that been included in the OP I wouldn't have suggested that
The species involved suggests someone has a dirty bird feeder. Woofgags post below re infecton
