Can anyone tell me how to make sure that when I buy eggs that I'm going to get a lovely orange yolk instead of an insipid yellow colour. It seems that only when I buy the eggs from a farm i can be sure of this. When I buy from the supermarket they are horrible. Anyone know how to identify.

I usually get my eggs from the farm but Mr Rosie cannot believe that I want to trail 6 miles there and back just for farm eggs so I get them when we pick the cats up from the cattery 3 times a year. Beautiful big eggs with orange yolks. Yum Yum
Rosiew, why not have your own chickens in your back yard? Lots of battery chickens that need homes.
When I kept hens we had lovely big orange yolk eggs that tasted superb, the only problem with really fresh eggs they are a problem to shell for boiled eggs.
I used to keep a few hens, for personal egg production, as well as being great pets.
They were free ranging and ate all manner of food scraps, as well as any insets etc, that was foolish enough to stray into the pens.
Quite by accident, I discovered that feeding them shredded carrots, gave they're yolks a wonderful dark and golden orange color, and I swear they tasted better too!
for a difference, and especially for baking, try duck eggs......
Duck eggs are wonderful - I kept 3 ducks in France. Mouth-watering eggs, almost worth going back and opening up OH's house in order to keep a few.
Merci for the reminder DTC.
