I've seen them in shops, ranging from about 85p to about £5.00 for a box of 6. do you get what you pay for. or is it a huge ripoff if you go for the more expensive ones ?

Although I like to do my own taste tests, the surveys are useful for comparing the prices.
As I recall from last year 'Greggs' took some beating.

Thanks all....now wheres that brandy butter.
Agree with those who have mentioned Aldi's mince pies. Best shop bought ones IMO.
They were £18 a box in Fortnum and Mason a few days ago ...

Smufchops, that was cheap! F & M are now apparently £13.95 a box.
Aldi mid range mince pies are the best. Filled full of good mincemeat with nice short pastry. I usually make my own but I haven't bothered this year as the Aldi pies are so good.

No Aldi store near me, so I decided to try the Greggs 'sweet mince pies'.
They are very sweet, but its more like an apple juice sweetness in the actual filling and only a light dusting on the pastry.
£2.50 for two boxes of 6 aint bad but the fancy packaging, I could have done without.
